Question about 2003 Kia Spectra

2 Answers

I have a Kia Spectra 2003. I have 128,000 Km's on my car. My check engine light went on 2 days ago. I went to turn my car on 24 hours later (after not driving it the day before) and my car started...cheugged for a second and then turned off. I have not been able to figure out the problem. I had a friend bring over his OBD computer reader...because we tested and changed the dead battery: the message is gone and we weren't able to find out what code it was. -changed all 4 spark plugs. Replaced the battery. Took out the fuel pumped- tested it and it's fine. Not sure where to go from here. I own the Haynes manual for my car...but not sure where to start.

It could be any number of things. Perhaps you could keep trying to get the car to run long enough for the light to come back on and check the code.

\I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, IT COULD BE A CLOGGED CATALETIC CONVERTER, THE EASIEST WAY TO TEST THIS ,TO ME ANYWAY, IS TO DISCONNECT THE EXHAUST PIPES(COMING OFF THE ENGINE) AND THE CONNECTION TO THE FRONT OF THE CATALETIC CONVERTER, THEN START THE CAR AND SEE WHAT IT DOES, IF THE ENGINE SURGE GOES AWAY(REMEMBER THE CAR WILL BE LOUD) BUT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE ENGINE HEALTH TO GO TO NORMAL, IF IT DOES YOUR CAT IS CLOGGED

If your gonna do it yourself, then, sure replace the filter as well. If you have one of those exchange machines do it, the machine, in my experience, gives a reading while it's exchanging. Apparently the lower the reading, the less flow thru the system, usually meaning the filter. Hope this helps.

Where I live there is a Schuck's auto parts...and they have a hand held diagnostic tester that plugs right in to your harness. This will tell you whats is wrong. It only takes about 2 min and they don't charge you.On my car it was the mass air flow censor. If you can't find a Auto parts store that does this...take it to a shop soon. Good Luck

Engine Light went on. What could be the causes? 2003 Kia Spectra.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light is turned on, the computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls and monitors of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.

About 2 weeks ago my check engine light came turned on so i drove home and told my dad about it but when we turned the car on it did not flash. But the the next 2 days it stayed on and the next morning...

Any time you get any check light, you should
be at a repair in a couple of days, or at least
check for codes. Still need it diagnosed and
repaired in a week

Otherwise you waste gas, polute the air or could
cause some damage,as you don't know what the issue
is that set the light

The fact the check light went out, doesn't mean
the problem went away.

Don't clear any codes you find, their needed to diagnose
the system faults

Holden Rodeo 2001, check engine light keeps coming on!?

I'm having same problem on my 2000 model rodeo 4wd 3.2L V6. Other day check engine light came on. I checked engine bay nothing abnormal, or power loss. Next day light was gone. 2 days later driving, a sudden loss of power and light came up. After idling for a couple of minutes, drove off with light still on but all power back. 1 hour later of faultless driving loss of power for a minute or so. Engine temp normal. Had break for 1/2 hour and set off for last hour of journey without fault except check engine light still on. Following dayon startup light went out???

Check engine light

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds or more and it should reset.
Mine came on after I flushed the cooling system and put new antifreeze in it.
Reset after I replaced the battery. But there are other things that can cause the light to come on.
