Question about 1992 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

I have a 94 jeep wrangler with 4.0 no spark. no fuel injection. before the jeep died every once in a while it would backfire. replaced the crank sensor, the cam sensor in the distributor, the distributor, the ecm, the coil, had the alternator checked and it was good. turn the key on the fuel pump runs and gets pressure to the rail but when i pull the injectors out and turn the engine over there is no spark from the coil or fuel from the injectors. How do i test the the crank sensor to be sure I have a known good sensor. I have put ground wires from the battery to the frame to the body I know I don't have a bad ground. I am a diesel mechanic not a gas mechanic. please help its a very nice jeep and if I have anymore downtime with it I am going to totally disassemble it and sell it as parts on craigslist.

Check the ADS relay in the power center under the hood, swap out that relay for another on to see if it'll start-did you check to see if you have a signal at the crank sensor harness (should be about 5-7 volts)?

You don't need a scanner. If you cycle the key off and on 5 times, the codes will start flashing. Here is a link to jeeps and their trouble codes. There aren't that many in the older OBD-1 systems.

If you have no trouble codes, check fuel pressure. Multiport injection is high pressure, above 40psi, but Jeep would have specs.

I have a 94 Jeep Cherrokee Sport with a 4 liter inline 6. With fuel injection and manuel 5 speed. It starts and runs good at idle, but when you press on gas it spitts and spudders. Then eventally spudders...

Have you replaced the crank sensor? There isn't really any way to test it, however it isn't expensive and it is fairly easy to replace. Good luck.

I put in a new clutch in my 94 Wrangler 4.0. now no spark

Wow. That's weird. I had a problem once where taking out the rear crossmember, then lowering the transmission tail shaft cracked the distributor cap against the firewall.

Look for something at the rear of the engine that might have gotten pinched when you too the tranny off.

how long has this been happing..one tank of fuel or more, could have been bad gas, replace filter,, put gas dryier in fuel tank..if it continues could possibly be transmission related..the reving down doesn't sound like transmission though if tansmission was slipping it would rev up..good luck

2002 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 When Driving the Engine Dies

You need to do a code check. if no codes, check fuel supply (pump and filter) Quick way to isolate problem to either fuel or spark is to spray carb cleaner into intake while cranking. If engine starts, then it's fuel...If not, then I'd suspect spark...common problem there is crank sensor, but don't replace it without testing first!!!

95 Jeep Wrangler will turn over but not start

COULD BE A COUPLE OF THINGS. NO SPARK COULD BE A BAD COIL. I DON;T KNOW IF YOU HAVE THE OLD OR NEW TYPE OF COIL. YOUR NO FUEL PROBLEM COULD BE THE FUEL PUMP IN THE FUEL TANK. JEEPS WERE NOTED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS A CAP YOU CAN TAKE OFF THE FUEL RAIL IF IT IS FUEL INJECTED AND TURN THE KEY ON TO SEE IF THE PUMP IS WORKING. BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS AS FUEL WILL SPRAY EVERYWHERE IF THE PUMP IS WORKING. THAT WILL BE A FIRE HAZARD IF CONTACT IS MADE WITH AN ELECTRICAL SPARK. USE CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THIS ITEM.
