While merging onto the highway my 1994 mazda 626 v6 suddenly died. Turns over but have not been able to restart since. Has spark, getting fuel, sprayed starter fuel still no start. Any ideas suggestions? If the timing belt slipped wouldnt the engine sputter when trying to start?

my 1996 mazda 626 suddenly died when i was merging onto a highway. i rolled off to the side and opened the hood. the belts r all fine and theres no smoke at all,i tried to crank it over and can hear the starter engage but doesnt crank. since i know its not the starter, i have no idea what it could be than maybe the distributor cap?

On a side note- A week before this happened my lifters began making noise, well what i determined was the lifters. i didnt take it in to get it looked at before this happended. Dont know if it could be related, im only asuming it was the lifters because the engine ran great, just made a metalic tapping noise from 1 of the valves and even after i changed the oil it still made the noise.

You can do couple things.

Timing Belt
1. Take Dist. cap off, have some crank engine over. This will verify timing belt is not broke.

Fuel pump
1. Remove fuel pressure by taking relay out under hood. turn engine over to remove pressue from fuel line also don't forget to remove fuel.cap.
1. Then remove fuel line put relay back and turn key YOU DON'T HAVE TO crank engine (it's electic fuel pump.)

Hope this helps

Well you can always try to flood it to find out if your car is getting gas. just turn the key to the on position. and hit the gas pedal a few times. than see if you can smell gas. if not the fuel filter is only like 5 or 6 bucks. if you change the pump i would change the filter as well.

It can be the fuel filter or pump but i am going to need more information because it could be many other things as well.
I want you to have someone turn the key into the on position but do not start the car. stand at the back of the car a listen for a humming noise. if you hear it than the fuel pump is working. let me know what you find out.

Car was driving on highway and white smoke first appeared in rear then front of car, then engine stopped, steering froze and cannot restart. Battery works and wipers, lights etc. work, no turnover....

If you saw white smoke that was antifreeze getting in to the cylinder(s), that is bad. It would appear you blew a head gasket or cracked/warped a head.
If enough collant got in to a cylinder it can in fact hydrauically sieze a motor, as in water does not compress. Often when antifreeze gets in to your oil it will look like a milk shake. Hopefully you are able just to repair one of he heads. If you can get it to carnk over, have a compression check done.

Good luck and I hope this may have assited,
Tom

The key to all this, is there a check engine light on in your dash ? If you try to start your Jeep do the lights still come on in the dash ?
You will have to have someone plug a scan tool into your vehicle to pull any codes.
Once you have those we will have a "map" to help solve the problem.
Please let me know.
