Question about 2004 GMC Envoy

1 Answer

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy and I am having some major issues. First my transmission started slipping and then one night driving the Check Engine light popped on and it cut off on me. I was able to crank back up and go home. Also when driving over ten miles or so there is a loud scrubbing noise coming from the back of my truck it almost sounds as if the axle is scrubbing. Could this be the problem? Also could the scrubbing have something to do with the transmission. I have taken my truck to the Chevrolet service center at the dealership and all they told me was that my transmission was gone, however, they did not check the scrubbing noise... please help.

If the dealer said your trans is close to a rebuild,
you should do that, now, and not at a dealer,a trans
shop

Then work on any other issues if they still exist

Not shifting on accelleration

Start by ensuring fluid level for transmission is correct. Is the check engine light on? If so, the transmission control module may have code stored in it to point you in the right direction. You can also try disconnectint/reconnecting battery which will reset transmission module. If problem corrects itself, keep driving to see if it reoccurs. If problem occurs immediately, recommend transmission diagnostics b efore costly repairs develop

2004 Envoy Code P0128

This means that the engine's PCM detected that the engine has not reached the required temperature level within a specified amount of time after starting the engine. The intent of the P0128 code is to indicate a faulty thermostate if its not overheating get it to a mechanic its probly stuck open

Transmission slipping on 03 GMC Envoy. what does iy mean when trans fluid measure high on dip stick?

Two things: #1 someone has overfilled it by mistake thinking they were putting oil in the engine. Yes I have seen this.
#2 The transmission cooler in the radiator could be leaking antifreeze into the transmission through the cooling line raising the fluid level. I would look for milk shake foam on the dip stick and make sure you check trans in park and not neutral.

My 2004 GMC Envoy is experiencing some problem that sounds like its the transmission. When I accelerate the car makes an awful rattling noise and the RPMs always stay really high. I can tell me gears...

It sounds as though you are definitely having a transmission issue as well as possibly other drive line problems. You should have the vehicle inspected by a professional as soon as possible; because this could potentially be a major safety issue as well as causing further significant damage to you vehicle.

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy, trans slipping that I have been towing

Low fluid can cause slipping. (depends upon how low) Most manufacturers post "safe" tow speeds. These are generally ignored. (not good). I recommend towing with driveshafts removed and where driveshaft has a "slip yoke" you install a yoke from a scrapyard and wire it to the tailshaft so it stays in place (keeps oil in and dirt out) Although you can't just detach the tow-bar and drive, it eliminates any possibility of trans damage, since the transmission cannot turn. (most use oil from pump to keep gearsets cool...when towing, pump is not pumping and over time and distance it can damage trans internals.)
Hope your problem is just low fluid and not a rebuild...keep in mind what I said though.
