How do i fix a 2006 Pontiac G6 key stuck in the ignition

Two things do this. First the key and lock set is worn out. Next would at the shifter, The cable is stretched or broken. If it is electrical, then the release in the handle is sticking or solenoid is bad. Most likely yours is electrical, Most times I clean them, lube the them with dry graphite and all is good. But you have to get the shifter out first. Remove the console.

Ignition key sometimes will not turn on a 2000 Plymouth Breeze. Problem seems to be in the shifter to ignition switch interlock. What wears out on these?

There is a cable that runs from the brake to the shifter and another that runs from the shifter to the column. You probably need to lube them with some light weight silicone spray.Getting to them is the fun part.

My gear shift is stuck in park.

Hi there, I'm Al the owner of Big As Auto Repair

I look forward to helping you with your problem. Two possibilities, the most likely first. (1) The shifter itself could have an issue. Because sometimes the solenoid in the shifter quits working OR the release mechanism could be broken. (2) The shifter cable going to the transmission could be frozen or the transmission itself could have an internal problem. If you need further assistance go to my website below. Have an awesome day! Shifter feels loose. hard to get reverse, whats the cause?

Possibly the following: Cable needs adjustment, linkage worn or needs lubricant, internal damage. I would start by removing the console panel from inside the vehicle and the boot from the shifter. Try lubricating what you can see from the top side. Don't use WD 40 use a grease that is similar to the type used to stop brake squeal. Work the shifter through all gears with the engine off and see if it eases the situation. If it does not, you'll need to raise the front of the vehicle in order to check/adjust the clutch cable and/or linkage that attaches to side of transmission. Another possibility is low transaxle oil. This should be easy to check as most cars now have a fill hole and a drain hole. Remove the top "screw" (this is usually done with a 3/8 " drive ratchet with NO socket on the end). Stick your finger in and the oil should be even with the top of the hole but not leaking out. If yours has a dipstick, all the better. Unless you are experincing chatter, or any grinding while shifting, it is very likely an external issue with linkage/clutch cable as it attaches to linkage, needing adjustment or lubrication. Check your owner's manual for the correct transaxle oil and freuqency of changing it. Regardless of any other rrelated issues, this is a very important maintenance procedure most people overlook. Your 99 is getting "up there" and it is imperative to follow schedules on oil changes, PCV valve, etc, ec, etc. I am hoping a few adjustments and some lube will fix you right up! If you do raise the car, manually and visually inspect all external parts of the shift linkage, fasteners and bushings and the cable itself for any rust or fraying.....

My 2000 mercedez benz s500 the shifter is stuck

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

Chevy malibu key stuck in ignition

I have a 2001 malibu the the key will not turn completely off(sometimes).
the key switch is on the dash and the shifter is on the middle console. there is a cable going from the switch to the shifter.
I found that if I disconnect the cable from the shifter and push the cable towards the switch, then leave it disconnected I don't have the key stuck issue and the switch will go all the way to the OFF position.
also there is a cylinder connected to the shifter, mine has had the wires cut(from a previous owner) you may need to unplug it.

2007 chrysler 300 stuck in park .how to get it out of park?

It will not allow the shifter to move unless you step on the brake. Otherwise, there is some issue with the mechanism located in the shifter console that interacts with the shifter cable.

Car would not shift from park corrected. Dust cover had been removed. Drinks, dirt allowed in shifter assembly. Now the Alarm is activated when attempting to start, how to correct? Shift inter-lock...

To reset the alarm you have to put the key ion the pass side door and turn key to unlock to stop it. Something stuck down by shifter have to pull console pieces out and look for a cable that releases it when you turn the key and lube and or clean it and see whats not letting it shift is it a console shifter I am assuming...... try this

91 Honda Acc Auto gear box is stiff

This is most ofthe related to lubrication of the cable, end bushings, and linkage at the tranny... especially at this age

You may want to disconnect the cable underhood and see if the floor shifter is mroe comfortable...

If the stiffness remains, I would suggest replacing the cable (lubrication is possible, but messy with the cable installed in the vehicle)

If your shifter move VERY freely, then likley the end bushing or linkage at the tranny - simple "maintenance" cleaning and lubrication should get you there.

IF the shifter at the tranny does NOT improve with external ceaning and lube, you may wish to flush/change your tranny fluid - many people do not perform regular changes and the position of the shifting bell-crank on the honda will allow dirt to accumulate and that shaft will bind as it passes through into the tranny.

I have a 2000 impala, which a friend of mine had my shifter cable installed. And now its stuck in second gear. The shifter goes up and down but it's not catching which leaves it stuck in second gear!...

It sounds like the shifter cable has popped loose.  You should be able to see the shifter cable on the transmission.  See if it is disconnected there.  If it is not, then the cable most likely popped loose at the shifter end.  You might be able to see the cable at the shifter end if you raise the vehicle (safely!) and crawl under there to see it.  Otherwise the shifter will have to be removed to inspect the cable connection on that end.
