What makes a 04 envoy run hot and lose oil?

A hot running engine is usually caused by a cooling system problem. Make sure the coolant level is full and the thermostat.. rad fan.. radiator cap and water pump are all functioning correctly. Make sure there are no restrictions in front of the radiator to obstruct air flow and coolant circulates properly throughout the radiator. As for losing oil, check for the obvious..... Leaks. If no major leaks and you have a high mileage engine, suspect the oil to be burning within the engine. A constantly hot running engine can also cause the oil to break down quicker resulting in consumption, especially if oil changes are neglected

Bmw 316i e36 when idol car doesnot overheat but after driving for about 2km car starts overheating

Have you checked your coolant levels as well as thermostat and waterpump functions? These can all atribute to engine overheating.

I replaced the thermostat, now the temp guage is reading hot.

System may be vacuum locked. Also make sure you added enough coolent. Also check to make sure you didnt instal the thermostat backwards. If it is vacuum locked, wait for the engine to cool down then remove one of the radiator hoses and put it back on. let it run for awhile with the heat on high.

The car was running fine and suddenly made a loud noise like water gurgeling all warning lights about water temp came on is it the thermastat

Sorry, not the thermostat. Check the coolant level and refill and locate the leak. I suspect the waterpump, make sure the belt is turning the waterpump. Do not drive an overheating engine.

I am having overheating problems with my BMW 316i...The heating in the car has now been working for some time now but about 4 days ago...the car started to overheat...within minutes of starting the car...

well this depends on what engine you have, i have a 316i e46 and has a 1.9ltr engine, if that is the same it might be the engine thermostat has stuck and need replacing, thats the good news, the bad news is it could be your head gasket, 1.8ltr engines were prone to blowing the head gasket, look in the rad water bottle to see if there is any oil residue in there, and also take off the oil filler cap to see if its a creamy colour thats your worse senario, but its proberbly just the engine thermostat

Can you tell me whee to find the thermostat on a bmw 316i aoto k reg

Hi,
If you are referring to the coolant thermostat, though I'm not familiar with your model, basically thermostats are located in a housing on the engine where the top radiator hose connects to that housing. For the most part, they are pretty easy to replace. If you have an overheating problem with your car, I hope this fixes it.

Bmw 316i overheating

check if the water is circulating as you might have a blockage in the header tank. this can be checked by opening the radiator cap and check if the water is circulating on top.

I have a 97 bmw 316i, we have changed the water pump, checked heads and changed radiator, bleed it at a 40degree angle filled it with coolant and it is still overheating after a ten minute drive?

You actually need the thermostat in to pressurize your cooling system or the coolant won't cyle through the radiator, it'll just cycle around the engine. Most people think without the thermostat in the coolant will just pump freely through the engine and radiator, but it doesn't.

Chuck in a new thermostat, purge the air out of the system and see if it overheats then. I gaurentee it won't, if it does then you've got head problems (but they should already be obvious by now).
