First here are some must do's

1, take pictures before you start and during removeal so you know where everything goes, don't rely on your memory it won't work.

2. You must make sure to keep the openings covered so there is no moisture drawn into the system.

3. You will have to flush the system backwards with refrigerant flushing compound bought at any auto parts store.

4. you will have to replace the reciver dryer or accumalator as well if you don't you will waste time and money.

5. if you don't have a vachum pump you will have to take it to a shop to get it pumped down before rechargeing or it won't get cold.

6. If you want a good guide go to http://www.alldata.com and get a subscription for your car and read all information on AC system.

04 Santa Fe burning smell running ac....

Sounds like the A/C compressor clutch has overheated and become inoperable. Open the hood, start engine, observe the compressor face. It should be turning and also see if that's where the noise and burning smell is coming from.
Good luck!!!

On the 2001 Sante Fe that year had with or without AC, I have AC but want to know if I can get the non-AC belt and simple bypass the compressor converting it to non ac??

Is the compressor locked up and this is why you want to make it non-AC? If so just remove the compressor clutch plate and you will be fine. Respond if you need instructions for this.

There is a high pressure relief valve on the compressor to avoid over filling the system and locking up the compressor, or blowing a A/C hose, ect.,
You need a set of gauges to do it right (connected to high and low ports) then read this.

My AC compressor is leaking. Is it possible to have that fixed, or do I need to have the whole compressor replaced? I was told this would be $800 and wondered if there was a cheaper way.

U CAN GET A REMANUFACTURED COMPRESSOR FROM YOUR LOCAL PARTS STORE FOR A 3RD OF THAT PRICE OR EVEN A GOOD MAJORITY OF JUNKYARDS WILL GIVE U A WARRANTY ON A USED ONE. JUST MAKE SURE AFTER ITS INSTALLED U GET THE SYSTEM EVACUATED BEFORE INSTALLING THE FREON

A/c issue 2006 sante fe

The AC unti is driven by a belt coming from the crankshaft. The belt is attached to the ac compressor which has a clutch unit that is suppose to let the compresser pully spin freely. by the sounds of your problem you might need a new pully/clutch for your ac compressor

AIR CONDITIONER NOT OPERATING

Your problem could be caused by MANY things/components. Example, if there is LOW pressure in the AC system, it will not work. Blown AC compressor magnetic clutch fuse, (does this Santa Fe have FULL AUTO AC or Manual?). If the evaporator Thermostatic Switch is malfunctioning, the AC will not work.. if the AC compressor clutch relay is broken, the AC will not work, if the coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning and telling the ECU (engine control unit) the temp is above 240 degrees, the AC will not work, etc. Here's a first step, go to http://www.hmaservice.com/ and register. You will find gobs and gobs of technical info on your vehicle -- more than you probably want to know.
