Question about 2004 Dodge Sprinter

Transmission seems to be bad, but wondering if it could be the TCM. It was driving just fine on a trip, pulled up to a stop light, and then it just would not go. Shut it off for a few mins, then it would go for about 100 feet and then not go. It won't let the engine rev up. If I let it sit for a while, then I can drive it for a little ways, like up onto a trailer to get it home. The following codes are stored in the PCM: 2561 2560 2562 2312 2311 Coeds in PCM: 2025 2228

    These are the codes given to me by the dealership. I assume the P is implied and each #'s listed are the 4 digit codes.

The codes you provided below are not fault codes. Are theses serial numbers off the modules? You read the codes with a electronic special scanner, a typical code for the engine/Transmission would be PXXXX, with the "X" being numbers.

    Please describe the symptoms. Also what is the letter in front of those codes? why do you list the PCM code twice??

first stop is:
try a real ASE mechanic that can do the many tests on car.
called ON CAR tests, in the FSM

oddly this car has a separate TCM tranny brain,
that drives 6 solenoids inside the box.
most suzuki a/t there is a secret( in fsm on all that do)
manual test mode. on most you un plug TCM connector and drive
to see if 4th gear really does slip, my guess is yes.
if yes slips, its bad trans, of no slip bad solenoid.
watch out manual mode can skip gears, #2 or 3, so test only 4.

replace the valve body, we do on regular trans, not sure
if that works on this transaxle type? (i dont have the book on this box)
in my shop i can hot wire solenoid(before retired)
this proves not TCM and is in the box
then i check solenoid coil ohms. 10 ok , 0 bad infinity bad.
10 can be 20 , idont know, the book above tells coil spec.
the soleniods can be bench tested.

Transmission light on

why not scan the PCM
it reports all trans TCM errors.
scan it, and then wonder.. (all cars) about 1988 to now
prior to that year, we do blink codes
scan it
write down all codes. DTCs. errors
then reset it, same tool
then drive
then see if comes back,
all cars. same deal, A/T electronic shifted.

Put into drive wont go

if engine RPM rises above 2000 RPM and (all gears are dead)
the Transmission is bad (A/T?) or TCM bad.
pull the scan codes from the TCM ,see if there are errors.

My auto transmission slips alot in 1st and 2nd (3rd occasionaly but almost imperceptible) most of the time when just D is selected. If I select L at a light or stop sign and then shift to 2 and then

if the TCM , controls the Tranny solenoids right?
Did you pull the TCM trouble codes yes, (blinking light codes?)
does the OD lamp flash, this means DTC errors stored.

The diagnostic code can be read by the number of blinks of the overdrive OFF indicator light when terminals TE1 and E1 are connected.

the Tranny will not slip, unless the tranny is bad.
the FSM covers this, you check the voltage to the soleniods
say in Low. are all solenoid coils at the proper voltage 12v or 0v?
is yes, then the tranny is toast.
but if you read the FSM, there is a on car set of tests.
1:the stall tests. i bet your s fails that.!!! ever do that, ?
2: then the pump pressure test, if bad, tranny is bad.
ill stop here, there are 200 plus part in the box and yes, 1 o-ring bad
kill the whole house of cards.
the more you slip it the more damage it gets.

the E suffix means elect,shifter, TCM brain.

why not log in to all
and see what tranny you have. and the tests. all simple on cars tests.
stall, etc.
old gosh the device bullion.
in 1992 the started modifiying this tranny to allow shared axle and A/T
fluids. the dead give away is the dip stick (log in and read it)
DIP stick end Tip to hot line, distance.?
34mm old style.
52mm new. (6.5 ilters) of ATFdry fill.
TSB waring of loose ground strap to tranny causing TCM togo nuts.

did you mix 4wd with 2wd ATF fluids (if opted)
2wd uses Dextron II or newer
4wd uses type T
im just reading the FSM. now.

in most cases all TCM made will set a DTC anytime it slips
The TCM has a RPM model for all loads.
input RPM over output RPM
if the RPMs are out of range, and it compensates for hills.(load)
then it trips a DTC, and glows the OD (flashes it)
if slippage is minor it may infact not trip, but will soon as you slowly burn up the clutch packs in the tranny.

id put the jumper clip in and drive and see if throws a DTC
wide open throttle up a hill. (max load will make it slip)
just once.

Acceleration issues

why not let the mech do his/her job.?
you have not stated yet,
engine power issues. (nor engine displacement)
or transmission problems, slip? or shifts wrong.?
it's one or the other, and is the JOB 1 to find out which it is
and it's a fact any mech can answer that in a trip around the block
did he noT?

all A/T trans do stay in 1st and do accelerate, but then shift 2nd
read the FSM it shows the exact shift points in a graph. RTM.

if you dont understand all that, then let him do his job.

and btw, A/T trans are very complex. and have 100s of parts that can fail and leave you stranded. just one cracked 0-ring and the world is dead. NO GO.
a loose spark plug is bad service, dont go back there.
Find a real ASE Mechanic, (on badge on sleeve it is)
he never used a torque wrench, and with alum. heads its critical to get it RIGHT.
the trans failures, can be bad TCM function any TCM input , any TCM output (TCM is a function inside your PCM) any bad solenoid.
bad sensor , or bad trans mission.
finding it takes hard work and owning any A/T means big labor costs and or $3000 new tranny. that is what you get with an A/T
toss a coin.
a loose wire, or a $3000 bill and $1000 labor
fate. (10 year old car how many miles, now> 300k?

TCM = transmission control module (or function)
PCM , power train control module, can have TCM in side it)

bad engine
bad trans
is the CEL glowing? driving?> scan it.
if not in USA scan it anyway, as some countries have CELs that lie.

2003 MR2 - 6 speed having weird error codes. (p0911) I'm a 6 speed, 64,000 miles once hot (or driven extended trips) the gears feel like they are "slipping" then the car shuts off. if I just drive it...

code p 0911 refers to transmission gate select actuator---circuit /range performance====causes --wiring---poor connections---transmission gate select actuator---ECM ---TCM
Take it in to an auto transmission specialist shop and have the TCM and the actuator tested
check for wiring failure or dirty terminal pins in connections

2005 pt cruiser,2.4 automatic would not shift out of first. codes 0700 & 0733. replaced solenoid pack, speed sensors. did fine till stop & go travel tripped engine light, would not change out of...

You go to a qualified transmission shop and let an experienced technician diagnose and repair the problem. (Unless you can read and understand all the codes from your TCM, and have the equipment to check fluid pressures at all the test ports)
Resetting the check engine light is obviously not correcting the problem - it comes back as soon as you get into stop and go traffic. Your transmission is going into limp mode, which is what it's supposed to do. Just enough to allow you to get it to a shop and get it repaired. Continuing to drive it this way may do further damage to the transmission. What may now be a fairly inexpensive fix (sensor, solenoid, etc), may become a very expensive fix.

Automatic transmission on my '92 Accord will not shift. All shifting must be done manually. Also,the light around the D (DRIVE) is always lit no matter which gear I've manually shifted to.

This is a very common problem, the transmission computer (tcm) has gone bad. It is located under the front passenger footwell. Pull back the carpet and you'll see both the engine computer and the tcm. They are available as rebuilts on ebay and other sources online. Do not buy one from a 2nd hand supplier. They are all bad and must be rebuilt. Google: "accord tcm" for more info.
