Question about 2005 Hyundai Sonata
It sounds as though the speed sensor has not been plugged back into the gearbox.it will trigger the eng check light. We used to call this sensor the 'speedo cable and head'years ago when it was a mechanical drive to the little gear in the top of the gearbox. Now that it is computer based it just has a wiring loom to a plug on this drive head. You should be able to see it at the back and top area of the gearbox. It usually is held in by a small 10mm bolt and the plug should be part of the wiring loom running by it,Just reach and refit the plugIt will only fit one way.Sometimes access can only be made by loosening the ducting from aircleaner to engine that runs above it.The check light should go out though the code may stay logged,if the light stays on but the speedo now works, dont worry. At some stage you will need to get to a garage that can reset the light, but it isnt life threatening.Removing the battery cable for a few moments generally wont clear these later OBD2 type systems.Hope this helps....oh you could always go back to the garage that did the job, armed with this knowledge and get them to do it while you wait,it wont take long to do.
