The best way, in my opinion, is to drop the tank and it's not too bad on your car. make sure you have the tank low on fuel as gas is pretty heavy. the other way and lazy way is basically to cut an access panel so you can get to the pump without dropping the tank but you have to cut sizeable panel and you have to make sure you recover the panel air tight to prevent fumes from seeping into the cabin. I will provide you a link where you can see how it is done. good luck. it is not a hard job to drop the tank. http://thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/documents/tech/fuelPumpAccessCover.pdf
Youtube must have thousands of them, well hundreds anyway. Well, a whole lot anyway. One probably like or similar to your '89 model.
Pretty sure you have to drop the tank to replace pump. In later years, makers began putting access panels under the rear seat or trunk area to access the fuel pump assembly, without removing the gas tank.
Well I released my pressure by pushing in the valve near the injectors under the hood. Make sure your engine is cold when doing this. Only a quick spray then its relieved. I unbolted my bed and jacked it about 5 inches and was able to change my 94 ram fuel pump. Pretty easy this way as those straps may need to be eplaced if removed. I did this 2 years ago. Maybe to an hour or 2. But if your truck has been sitting yow may want to drop the tank to clean it out.
If its solid axle, just lift the rear end slightly to raise the panhard rod a bit to make room for the pump to come out. When Ive removed them before Im pretty sure Ive turned the pump 90 degrees to get it out of the tank. You also have to remove the return line thats inside the tank,it goes from the swirl pot to the pump assembly. Its a quick connector.Im not to sure about IRS models and if theres enough room to remove them without removing the tank
you'll have to drop your fuel tank most likely. best to buy a chilton or a haynes manual for that unless your pretty mechanically inclined. usually there are fuel lines, at least one wire plug, and at least 2 straps that have to be undone before lowering it completely.
IN most veihicles the fuel pump is on top of the fuel tank so yes you have to drop the tank. I have seen my friend cut hole in the floor board and tank the fuel pump out that way but im sure you dont want to do it that way.
Hi, the fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and to get to it you have to lower the fuel tank from the car, make sure you have used all the fuel up as it will be to heavy to handle if the fuel is left in it, you need to make sure the car is high enough off the floor to get the fuel tank lowered enough to get the tank lowered.
if your doing this yourself then make sure you have some good axle stands to put the car on before you do any work under neath,
check under the back seat to see if their is an access panel to the tank but im pretty sure their isnt check first just in case im wrong but from what i remember you need to lower the tank down to get to the pump.
