the problem is not with the door latch, the
problem is the three sided heavy wire that the
    door latch snappes into.

  • johnwiltsie6 Mar 17, 2011

no this is a thick coat hanger type wire that is aganst the back of glove box face
the latch on door closes in to it.

I am not sure what it is you are asking here, please clarify what your question is? Is this the glove box light wiring?if so remove the glove box liner (held in by short Phillips screws) and repair the wires

That is the sticker for the latch in the door, the screw that holds it has fallen out, go to a hardware store and buy anew screw if you can't find the old one, the striker is held inside the glove box by one screw on each side, it must be adjusted to work correctly.

Check the latch and wirings. If any of the latch or wirings are broken// cut in between. To remove the entilre glove box. The hinge is screwed tothe door with five screws but screwed and rivited to the glove box. You have to remove the golve boxx to have room to cut the rivets with a chisel. They could not be drilled out. The box is held in with four screws and about 10 clips.
Detach the screws that connect the glove box housing to the glove box door, using a power drill. Slide the glove box housing away with the glove box door.Pull and detach the glove box harness,Detach the screws that hold in the glove box latch, using a power drill. Slide away the glove box latch. Now check the latch and wirings. If the latch is broken then replace it.If the wirings are getting cut then get the external wires connected and check if its closing the glove box. ----------- Check out.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

The latch of the glove compartment broke. Can't open the compartment

If you look under glove box you will see two to four screws that hold the glove box on. Take out the screws and the glove box will drop down and you can get inside and release latch..then you can get a replacement latch and replace.

Glove box wont latch

If the glove box was closed wrong than the latch that keeps the glove box shut will close on itself. If you take a pen or a screwdriver and put little pressure on it and try the handle again it should open. if thats not the case than replace the handle, the locking mechanism with in the handle or the spring broke or came apart.

Slk 500-glove box wont open

It sounds like something got in the way of the latch when you closed it after putting your stuff in there. Take a screw driver and while gently prying on the door turn the latch at the same time. Once it opens and there wasn't anything jamming it then WD 40 time. Let me know how it turns out. Raz
