Hard to get it in the right gear unless you pull up on the shifter its a 5 speed manual

The shifter is removable. And at the end of the shaft is a plastic "ball" that wears out. This is common on the toyota's. Remove the boot, and push down and spin the inner collar around the base of the shifter to unlock the shifter to remove it.

How do i get the shifter knob off my 1999 saturn sl 5 speed?

Look at the bottom side of the shifter knob - if it has a collar on it, loosen the collar off to gain access to the allen screw holding the knob to the arm.If there's not a collar, look carefully all round the bottom section of the knob for the allen screw hole or a small plug that would cover the allen screw.
Good luck!

How do i remove shifter handle?

most shifters have a set screw somewhere on the base of the handle that u can unscrew and just unscrew the knob. if not then u may be able to just unscrew the knob. if the boot goes all the way up to the knob and is removable, there should be a lip on the bottom edge of the knob that the boot just fits into and can be pulled off of

Can't get the gear shift knob off.

most manual transmission shifter knobs are screwed on, twist to the left, look at the bottom of the knob, because some have a brass locking nut, if it does hold it with a wrench and twist to the left.

Shifter knob removal

the shift knob is glued and pressed on, the best way to remove it intact is to heat the knob with a heat gun and pull straight up with a lot of force, please be very careful because when the knob finally releases there is very good chance that you can hit yourself in the face, if the knob is not to be used again you cut a **** up the side with a dremal tool,
