The fuel sending unit is going bad. unfortunatlly it's located on the side of your fuel pump inside of the gas tank. and they do not only sell the sending unit by itself. you'll need to purchase the fuel pump in order to get the sending unit. the fuel tank will also need to be removed to replace the fuel pump as it's inside the gas tank.{most garages price the labor based on how much fuel is inside the gas tank} the gas tank is very heavy when it has alot of gas in it. i suggest that you shop around for prices on fuel pump and the labor to replace it. thank you for choosing fixya.com

Gas tank will not fill up on 2001 ford expedition

Gas as in gasoline or gas as in LPG gas? If its petrol, the fuel sender may be out of adjustment. (Usually means a new sender) If its LPG, the fuel stations are set to automatically shut off at 80% full. The gas tank will never actually be full to the brim but the gauge should be showing full if the gas nozzle keeps shutting off. Have a look on the LPG tank itself, they have a little gauge on them which shows how full it is. I have 2 tanks on my car , when "full" or when the pump shuts down, the tank gauges show just under full but the gauge on the cars dash shows full (2005 BA Ford)

Where is the fuel pump on a 1994 lexus ls 400?

The fuel pump is inside gas tank behind the back seat unscrew the only top that's there and it is inside the gas tank. You will have to remove your back seat to gain access to fuel pump. Fuel tank is located in trunk. No need to take fuel tank down. My ford expedition idles fine but when i go down the road it starts skipping

not sure if your check engine light comes on. first thing to try would be to buy a couple bottles of gas line antifreeze (it aborbs water) add one to your tank now and one next time you fill up. if it is water in your fuel you will notice almost immediate results. second may be the coil pack is failing.

06 Mustang Gas Tank; Last 2 times I couldn't take in more than 7 gal fuel before filler shut off occurred. After that, filler would shut off after every .1 gal. When at Costco with 10 cars waiting to...

There is a fault with the fuel tanks in the 06 cars (and some 05). It is a well known problem and Ford has issued a service bulletin on the issue.

It also seems to be a problem with the fuel pumps at certain gas stations but not others. Try a couple of different service stations (not the same fuel brand) and see if you have the same shut off problem because some people have found that the pumps at some gas stations do not cause premature shut off when re-fueling their 06 Stangs.

I would contact the nearest Ford dealer service people and see if they will rectify the problem for you FOC even though the vehicle is now out of warranty. In some vehicles the fuel tanks were replaced to fix the problem but not in all apparently.

In the meantime you can try 2 means to resolve the problem that has worked for some (not at the same time).

1. Turn the fuel pump nozzle 45 - 90 degrees when re-fueling and do not run the pump full bore. Slow the fuel flow a little.

2. I would avoid this one and I do not recommend it but it has worked well for some people with your problem. Turn on the car's ignition (not the engine)before you fill the tank . Switch it off immediately you have completed re-fueling.

At 75,000 miles my 04Avalon gas tank will only fill 3/4 full. The gas pump cuts off and Ican keep clicking it for about 50 times to try continue filling the tank. Is there some remedy for this?

The float on your fuel pump is not working right the only cure is to replace the float not pump just the float and you will need to drop the fuel tank to do so.

This sounds like the gas tank vent pipe is obstructed.

Sounds like you might have a breather hose that is pinched.
