If it is a single click, it could also be the neutral-safety switch. Turn ignition switch on, put foot on the brake, put trans in neutral - try to start.

I tried to put the trans in neutral, wouldn't let me. Moving the shifter a "little" bit my car was easily started. Yay! It wasn't in park all the way (although it seemed to be). I'll remember this in case it happens again. Thank you for your awesome suggestion gabenero!! I wouldn't have tried moving the shifter if it hadn't been for your suggestion. Car wouldn't start all day. Guess I was destined to stay home. Thanks again!! :)

Check the battery for a low charge. If the battery checks out than test the starter. A clicking sound from the starter is indicative of a dead or low charged battery. The other most common problem is the solenoid on the starter is bad. The starter can be tested at a local parts dealer like auto zone or whatever you have. The battery can be tested too. Have a load test done on the battery if you take it in to be tested.
The starter is located on the lower side of the motor where the trans and motor meet. two bolts hold it in.

This might sound simple but make sure that the battery cables are tight. My sentra's cables come loose all the time at different times and it does the clicking like yours.

Hello Ron, If your car does not crank when you turn the key, it sounds as if you have problems with the ignition switch . Or the actuating rod is disconnected.

It sounds like you need a new starter. Your armature has few dead spots on it and every time you turn the key it moves just a little until you hit a good spot and then it spins and the car starts
