Question about Ford Ranger

2 Answers

I have a 1987 ford ranger 4x4 2.9 5spd. just replaced head gaskets, it started running rough and cutting out. we found it is loading up on fuel. i have changed the throttle sensor, map sensor, o2 sensor, the main computer mod.and fuel filter it starts up and runs idle and runs fine then it starts to run rough and load up if it shuts down i can start back up and runs fine for a short while and does it again. i forgot we have check the fuel pressure and at a idle it is 20-25lbs and giving some gas it is up to 40lbs. any ideas i could check? it would be greatly appreciated, i am getting really frustrated. Thanks.

What's your question?i replace cylnder head gasket for fo ford ranger 2.5 diesel but now when i start it idling rough, what could be the fauld?

Diesel engines need all the air bled out of the system to run smooth, When you had it apart did you seal all of the fuel lines and injectors to keep out dirt ETC and did you remove the injectors before removing the cylinder head because the injector tip can get damaged if they are left in the head when it is removed

What would make my 1987 ford ranger run good at start , go for 5 to ten miles and loose all power . i have already replaced fuel filter

check for codes this may help if their is one, some codes will set without turning on the check engines light.have the fuel pressure checked with a gage as a bad fuel pump will act this way. have the tps(throttle position sensor) checked for voltage dropouts as you move the throttle. the catalytic converter could be plugging up and need replacing. if you have an ignition problem usually a miss will be noticed. on other thing I can think of is possibly a transmission problem, I can only recall one that I`ve run across that this was the cause.

Just bought a 1987 Ford Ranger 2.9liter v6. Truck will start and run for a minute then it dies. Tried replacing Ignition Coil, that wasn't the problem. No lights come on to warn you it just dies.

I recommend checking / replacing both the fuel and air filters. If one of them is clogged it will mess up the fuel/air mixture which could cause the truck to stall. I hope this helps you out.

I just bought a 1987 ford ranger from an elderly women whos son just died. He had just replaced the head gasket **** didn't get it back running. The engine has spark at all plug but won't start even on...

Sounds like maybe the distributor is off. I run into that alot after that kind of engine work. Reset the distibutor to #1 TDC. I hope that I helped you. Best wishes.

1987 Volkswagen Jetta GL rough idling problem.

Hi!
So far you have done all but change the leads! This will help dramatically BUT if your head gasket is blown I'm afraid you'll have real difficulty in get it to run smooth as water/steam is possibly mixing with the fuel causing very poor ignition.
I did the same as you on a Golf as soon as the new leads were fitted Bingo a New Car, However there wasn't a head gasket issue.
Good Luck and A Happy New Year to you and your Family.
