Pull on the handle as if you were opening it and then force it open with a screwdriver or like tool. It won't reliese unless you have the handle pulled. i hope this helps you and good luck.

My tailgate locked while it was opened, now it wont close. How do I get it unlocked so I can close it.

If you have a key fob, double click unlock then open latch. You may have to use a screw driver to help the latch move to the open position

Hatch latch will not shut, not matter how hard you shut it.

try unlocking it while its open sometimes they get jammed up by trying to close them and the latch will get hung up in the closed position if you take the key and hold it in the unlock position (don't release ) and then try to manuver the metal latching part it will pop loose ,doors are famous for this !

Can't get trunk ajar light and bell to go off in my 2008 Kia Sedona - what can I do?

Sounds like you will need to move the "striker" pin out a little. This pin is located on the floor (sill panel) when you open the tailgate. By moving the striker out, it will allow the latch on the tailgate to close in the second position instead of just the first. When the latch is closed in the second position, your light and bell will go out. If you still can't get them to go out after adjusting, then the latch inside the tailgate has went bad and will have to be replaced.

Tailgate open/ lock latch in closed position so tailgate will not close/ can't et lock latch to open so I can close tailgate completely

Annoying, but easy to fix: Actuate the opening handle and manually rotate the latch to the open position.

2009 Ford F350 tailgate latch stuck in the open position, tailgate won't latch closed.

I am not quite sure, but on the sides of the tailgate, where it locks, can't you push the mechanism back? I think you can. It either turns them from latch to open. You can try this. See if you can push it into lock mode.

The tailgate latch, doesn,t latch

you have to make sure the strikers are lined up to the latch. The latches get dirt in them and dont move easily. You may have to remove the latches and clean them and grease them up make sure the action is working. There is a spring on the latch if it is broken you will have to replace the latch. Make sure as you before you shut the tailgate the the latches on the tailgate are open and not latched closed. You can put a screw driver in the latch and pull the handle and that should release the latch in the position ready to accept the striker when you close it Next make sure the plastic clip retainers are not broken on the handle

Auto tailgate warning light is on dash board but tailgate closed.

I have a similar problem, my tailgate stopped working with the outside handle and the remote but can be opened manually from the inside. I don't have an alarm so there is no problem with that but did you get a solution for the tailgate problem that I could try?

TAKE A SCREWDRIVER OR SOMETHING TO PUT IN THE GAP IN THE LATCH WHERE THE STIKER IN THE DOOR JAM IS WHEN IT IS CLOSED NORMALLY,& WHILE YOU HAVE THE SCREWDRIVER OR SOMETHING SIMILAR IN THE LATCH,PULL TOWARDS THE CAR WHILE YOU PULL THE HANDLE LIKE TO OPEN THE DOOR AS IF IT WAS CLOSED NORMAL,& IT SHOULD OPEN THE LATCH.

1992 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 tailgate wont latch

latches for this are on the sides. The are connected by the handle in the middle of the gate. Latches are either stuck open (dry or frozen open) or stuck closed and you are banging on them when trying to close and "latch" gate. Get a screwdriver and while pulling up on tailgate handle make sure latches(on gate) are open to engage "striker bolt". If they are spray them liberally with WD40 or silicone SPRAY. latch and open several times to let lubricant attack rusted area on mechanism.

If latches won't open they may be stuck closed and won't open because cable going from middle handle to that side or both sides is disconnected. Does tailgate have star shaped bolts on "inside-bed-when-closed" side? If so you will need to spray these with WD40 and let set then get a star torques bit and remove them to access middle handle actuator.
