Question about Mitsubishi Passenger

1 Answer

My Mitsubishi Chariot 1998 snapped timing belt, we've managed to sort it out but now i get an engine warning ligt on the dash if it idles for about than 30secs, then it loses power, i'd have to switch the engine off for a short then start it again, the light won't come on as long as i don't idle it for long, stationary. They put it on the diagnostics machine it gave us 92 ETV MTR FB code, what does this mean?

My Mitsubishi chariot can start but goes off, will not run idle.

Possible causes are:
* if you have a distributor, the spark coil assembly in its base is faulty.
* Timing is off. Check the belt at TDC and ensure the cam markers line up.
* check the coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing. If the wires are damaged (common for older cars) the ECU cannot work out the spark timing properly.

I had been saving for a toyota noah or nissan serena but things changed and i ended up recently purchasing an ex japan mitsubishi chariot, 1998 2.4L grandis with 78000kms. everything is normal now except...

Everything is repairable if the parts and expertise are available, just not always viable.
The problems we see here with this model is idle low and stalls caused by dirty throttle body and air flow sensor. This should be the GDI model.they should run very lean.
Sooty exhaust can be caused by a few areas singularly or combined.
Faulty or dirty oxygen sensor.
Warn spark plugs(this model usually has iridium or platinum that should do 60-80,000km).
Blocked/dirty air filter.
Weak spark from the coil(s)
Poor fuel grade
Incorrect timing or knock sensor faulty.
Injectors dirty(not so common).
worn/tired engine(not yours if the kms correct)
Catalyic convertor fault
Thermostat too cold or stuck open
Engine temp too low or sensor fault for coolant signal to ECU
Hope this helps you

Vw lt46 1998 would it damage valves if timing belt

yes it will and most likely put a hole in the piston and snap the cam shaft if the engine is doing any more than idle speed, if it breaks at idle you may be lucky and just get away with a few bent valves but if im honest ive never seen anyone be lucky with one the normaly require a new engine. also worth changing the water pump at the same time as these do seize and will snap the new cam belt ! the only belt you can get away with leaving is the pump belt if this breaks no damage is caused the engine will just cut out ! however you will need to pretty much remove it after fitting a cambelt to set the timing so its pretty pointless no to change it

Why is my mitsubishi chariot grands ejecting blue and black smoke

u damaged the valve train or damaged a piston--blue smoke means ur burning oil pull the plugs to determine which cylinder[s] is or are affected the plug would be fouled or have build up on it and do a compression test --possible problems--bent valve--burnt valve-bad valve guide --bad rocker- bad lifter- valve spring broken

Engine mounting

I first have to ask if you are sure the engine mounts are bad, or could the engine just be misfiring on a couple cylinders. Is there any clunking or thumping when accelerating or just revving the engine? If there is, then check the motor mounts, otherwise check the sparl plugs and wires. Here is an internet parts supplier that I have used before. Most of their merchandise goes out by UPS who has a facility in Gaborone. It looks like your Chariot was sold under many different names throughout the world. We knew them in the US as the Dodge Colt Vista, and the Mitsubishi Expo. Here is a brief bit of information about the car.
