How do I clean the oil pump filter and screen on a 2003 Mitsubishi Sport Monterro? The oil pressure light keeps flickering and the mechanic said that this was the problem. My car rides and drives well, but the soft knocking is puzzling. Please help me save my car!

You will need to remove the oil pan, to clean the screen for the oil pump.

2003 echo oil light flickers

Well it could be an oil pressure problem, or a faulty oil pressure switch, or something in the wiring harness.
I would have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.

Oil light flickers when it warms up, when your stopped.

The flickering light usually indicates low oil pressure particularly at idle.Check oil quantity. How long since serviced and filter replaced. If these all good have your oil pressure tested with a master gauge. Some issues can be oil pickup slugged up or if high miler engine bearings.

Oil light flickers was told oil pressure is good?

There may be a misunderstanding here.
Yes the warning light comes on when the oil pressure drops below 5psi.
If the light comes on and the switch is working correctly, the oil pressure is not good. Any problem with the pump or the screen would make the pressure not good.
If the oil pressure has been checked with a mechanical gauge and it is above 20psi, the switch or the wiring could be faulty.
You would need to have the pressure checked to know.

My mechanic told me that I would have to replace my engine due to tapping sound and oil light coming on. My brother said it sounds like the lifters are stuck. We added Marvel Mystery oil and ran the car...

Unfortantly if there is internal damage you will have to replace the engine or have it rebuilt. If the oil light is on then your oil pump may be fualty, replacing the pump may fix your problem, remember if theres considerable engine damage it will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Hope this helps.

Have an 04 lancer. Oil light comes on sometimes just flickers, but only after warmed up and at an idle. driving down the road the light stays off. Oil never low and just changed with filters, brand new...

Replace the oil pressure sender. The sender is what is turning the warning light on.If you replace the oil pressure sender it should fix the flickering light problem. If it does not , the light is an indication of more serious motor killing problem. Fortunately, the sender is under $10 and usually fails before the actual oil pump.

About 2 miles into your first trip of the day it will start tapping and it gets louder like all the lifters are sticking, and the oil light flickers, could the oil pump be going bad

Oh, yeah, with those noises and the oil light flickering, do not drive it anymore, you'll kill the engine. Get that oil pump replaced ASAP.

2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Oil Light at Low RPMS.

I had the same exact problem over the weekend. We decided to go cheap first and replace the Oil Pressure Switch. It's like $6.00 at Auto Zone here in Texas. (don't know if you are from the states). It ended up being the switch. It's located right by the oil filter and it's very easy to change. Just make sure you have a wrench or deep socket bigger than 15/16. I think we used a 1 inch wrench.

If it's not the switch, its most likely the oil pump, but don't forget to check the hose, it could be bent or crimped.

Hope this helps :D
