How to reset airbag light on a jeep liberty - 2004 Jeep Liberty

The light comes on because something is wrong with the system. If you do not fix the problem, clearing the code (and turning the light off) will only result in the light coming back on as soon as the computer re-scans it's diagnostics.

SOURCE: 2003 jeep liberty air bag light on is it easy to fix

The system needs to be checked for cades. Airbag codes are pulled out of the ECU with the use of a scanner tool. A good auto mechanic shop will have this or you can go to the dealer. YOU SHOULD NOT TRY TO REPAIR THIS YOURSELF,YOU COULD ACTIVATE THE AIRBAG!!!!!

SOURCE: airbag light stays on 2005 jeep liberty

It probably will cost a few bucks to get the code reset, but you don't need to go to the dealership, most shops with a good scanner equipped for air bag code reading will be able to diagnose and reset the light. The most probable reason for the code is the battery being dead for a while, there is a capacitor in the airbag circuit to make sure the airbag can go off in a collision even if the battery disconnects itself in the process. There is a slim chance it might be something else but either way the shop should be able to tell you what the problem is, and get it fixed... But, just for fun, before doing all this, i'd disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to an hour and reconnect it back, some systems do effectively reset themselves this way.

SOURCE: where is the airbag system fuse in 05 jeep liberty

If you do not have a switch to disarm the passenger airbag it can not be done by pulling the fuse. If you disconnect anything you run the risk of the air bags deploying on their own. The only other way to turn passenger of is to disconnect the bag all together.

The airbag module is dead. Internal 1 is a failure of the internal circuit check. You have to replace the module.

that's right airbag defeat is 1st step , in all FSM (96+)
the FSM covers this, in step by step details. UNDER DASH work.
on some cars, it's just let battery sit, unpugged neg lug for 1hour first
to let the BAG, controllers to DISCHARGE Capacitors.
they hold big charge, because in a crash the 12vdc power can go byebye first. and bags fail to deploy, easy to understand all this once you know the WHY.
you failed to stated, year liberty.

2004 jeep liberty limited 4x4 airbag light goes on when you start the car then goes off for a few seconds then comes back on . both dash light and grab handle lights do this

The most probable reason for the code is the battery being dead for a while, there is a capacitor in the airbag circuit to make sure the airbag can go off in a collision even if the battery disconnects itself in the process. There is a slim chance it might be something else but either way the shop should be able to tell you what the problem is, and get it fixed; sometimes, scanner reader could helpfull to know exactly what fault code is stored there. keep in mind that this isnt an OBD codes reader, this is more specific for Airbag Systems.

Also, isnt rare to know that the airbag warning light is indicating the airbag(s) may not be functionig. As it says in the manual, "Ignoring the AIRBAG warning light in your instrument panel could mean you won't have the airbags to protect you, (or your passangers), in a collision...have the airbag system checked right away". Always wear your seatbelt. On 2004 there is a light on the passanger grab bar that indicates the passanger airbag is off. This happens when a child is in the seat to protect the child from the sudden force of an airbag. It can also be fooled by a package or briefcase on the seat. This is normal. When an adult sits on the passanger side the light should go off. This information was an addition to the 2004 manual.

Check THIS ARTICLE for additional details.

Hope this helps.
