Question about 1995 Buick Park Avenue

2 Answers

Fuel Trouble? I am having to really press on the gas pedal for it to go. The pickup on it is not as good as it once was. Today, when going from a stop light, it almost studdered and I felt it was going to die on me. I just recently replaced my air compressor for cool air, but I'm not sure if the two are related. Also today, once I got home, it has a strong odor of gas inside and outside of the car. What can this possibly be? Please help. Thanks!

Davidslade , sounds like you may have some ignition trouble (not the ignition where the key goes). The plug wires could need to be replaced and or you could have a bad coil pack. tonight when it gets dark out, pop the hood and check for a light show- what i mean is you should see little arcs of light if the wires are bad, BUT not all the time. take a windex bottle with water in it and spray the plug wires from the coil pack to the plugs. then watch and listen for changes in its run-ability. if your not sure take it for a quick spin with the wires wet down. if you have an ohm meter you can test the coil pack by checking continuity between the studs where the wires go onto it. it should have aprox. 1300-1500 ohms. if ofer 1500 ohms the definately replace it. if you see and white corrosion replace the wires as the terminals will be corroded inside the end.
One more thing you can do for hesitation is clean the mass air flow sensor. it is the black box on the throttlebody that is held on with 3 phillips head screws. don't loose the o-ring when you remove it. blast off the two wires suspended between the two posts with good choke cleaner but do not touch them with anything no matter how much you mant to-k?. reinstall it and whether that was related the car will run better and get better fuel milage. Good luck.

First find the origin of the fuel smell? It could be a small leak ,the vehicle maybe running rich or you could have a concern with the evap. system? When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? If it is restricted it can cause the power loss. Is the check engine light on?

Yes, it could be. The best and only way to know for certain is to have the fuel pressure checked. The pressure should be higher at start up, as with key on-not starting, than when engine is running. It may drop a few psi (5?) after the engine is running.
And very critical to have that fuel pressure at the injectors, for both easy starting and good running. If you have to try giving it gas to start, then something is wrong with either fuel pressure or with the computer controls for the engine. Odd as it sounds, the accelerator pedal-the old gas pedal-actually controls the air intake into the intake manifold of the engine. The computer senses all that and knows when to shoot more gas through the injectors...for a haappy ride. Good luck-check fuel pressure, check for trouble codes.

Sounds like a fuel pressure issue. Have you changed your fuel filter lately ?

sounds like it could be a fuel pump malfunction. Remove fuel filler cap and listen while someone turns key on and off to see if pump starts and stops.

Thats a good one. Going by what you are saying the vehicle has to under a load in order for the vibration to occur. Best guess would be rear end or torque convertor.

My truck will run fine with gas pedal pressed down just a little bit but when you want to accelerate faster and press the pedal down all the way it sputters , its a 5 speed. any suggestions?

When was last tune up? Plugs, wires, all fluids & filters - including fuel filter? I would start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it.

I have a 1994 toyota pickup 1/2 ton, and i have to press the gas pedal when i'm on stop light, because if not the engine goes off

YOU NEED TO ADJUST IDLE SPEED TO 750 RPM FOR THE 2.4L ENGINE AND THE 3.0L ENGINE IDLE SPEED NEEDS TO BE 800 RPM.THAT IS THE REASON WHY TRUCK STALLING YOU NEED REALLY TUNE UP ENGINE THEN ADJUST IDLE SPEED.

Car Starts Really Rough.

Check the fuel/air sensor and air filter. When you first start the car only press the accelerator pedal once. If while turning the ignition switch you here a grinding noise that would be your starter going out. The smell of fuel signals that your car is either flooded from pressing pedal or fuel mixture is incorrect. Hope this helps.
