I can not get to the top hidden bolt is there an easier way to access from under the hood??????or any other suggestions

How do I change the alternator on 2005 sebring


Will most vehicles, the alternator is located near the top with a belt going directly to it. This makes removal easier as you only need open the hood (bonnet) for access. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal first, and then disconnect the alternator's electrical connector. Loosen the belt tensioning bolt (also serves to affix the alternator) and tap it with a hammer to get it free to move to remove the tension from the belt. Unscrew the bolt completely and the alternator will be off. If you don't have the new alternator with you, put the bolt back in the mounting hole and snug it up so you won' misplace it. Buy a new alternator belt and inspect the starter belt while you at it. It is easier to change both at the same time, but the starter requires you get under the car to loose it from belt tension.

Where is the starter located


The starter motor/solenoid is located to the left of the oil filter. you'll need to have the vehicle up on stands to access it. Remove two wires. Wire #1 is a clip. To release the clip, push down on the small release tab on the backside of the clip assembly and pull apart. Wire # 2 is connected to the solenoid. Pry off the protective cap with a small screwdriver and undo the nut (12mm). From there you're supposed to be able to acces the starter motor bolts from the back side of the bell housing. There are only 2 bolts, each 12mm as well. You will not be able to see the first one, as it is pretty hidden. You will need to use the 12mm socket to mark it. From under the car locate the bolt connecting the starter to the bell housing and place the socket on the other side. Now you can remove it from the hood side of the car. The other bolt will be located near a Transmission bolt. Now you can remove it from under the car. It is easier with 2 people.

Can not get bottom bolt off starter on a 1992 toyota 4 runner the top one came off easily. how do i go about getting it off


Place the car on a jack and remove the right wheel to get access into the wheel cavity. It can be done in place but its easier if removed. There is a metal cover in the wheel cavity that is removed to gain access to the starter. Remove this. Now disconnect the connections on the motor. one is a 10mm nut and one a push in connector with a tab to hold in place. Once off there are 2 bolts holding the starter on. I suggest doing the one underneath first since the other can be done easily. Once lower one is all the way out then loosen the top one and remove it. You can just slide the starter out the wheel cavity. Then reverse order to install. Just don't tighten down the bolts completely until both of them are in and snug.

Note: I take off the brush guard to gain access to the lower bolt. Seems like this takes time but I find it easier in the long run to remove the lower bolt this way.

Head light change out How intrusive is the job?


Hello gary..... This is not a bad job. Here are the steps.

  1. Engage the parking break and remove the keys from the ignition before attempting any repairs. Make sure you've turned the headlight switch to the off position.

  2. Open the hood by first pulling the interior hood release lever located below the steering wheel under the instrument panel. Then, walk around to the front of the pickup and push up on the safety catch located in the opening beneath the center of the grill. Lift the hood and secure it.

  3. Unscrew the expanding fastener from the headlight welt, if equipped. Use a screwdriver to remove the three screws that hold it in place. However, not all Dodge Rams of this generation have this feature.

  4. Remove the first two bolts from the headlight assembly using a socket wrench. These two bolts will be on the inside near the grille.

  5. Remove the third bolt located on the outside bottom of the headlight assembly near the fender. You may find it easier to access this bolt from the fender well where you'll find an access hole after removing the fender plug. Use a socket wrench with a ratchet extender for easier removal.

  6. Pull the headlight assembly away from the front of the pickup, giving special force to the fender side. Be careful not to scratch the paint or jostle the assembly too much. You don't want to have to readjust your headlight aim when you're done.

  7. Disconnect the electrical connector by giving it a quarter-turn and pulling it straight out from the base of the bulb housing. This should remove it completely from the housing, so you can access the bulb.

  8. Twist the collar on the headlight bulb a quarter-turn to remove it from the bulb base.

  9. Install the new bulb into the bulb assembly, reconnect the electrical connector and place it back into the headlight housing. Replace the headlight assembly in reverse order of removal. Make sure all bolts are secure before closing the hood.

  10. Turn on your Dodge Ram and make sure the headlights are working.

How do i open the hood on a 2001 cherokee if the release is broken


Remove both headlights and mounting cans. There are two bolts on each side that can be removed using a 13mm socket. The one bolt goes straight up and is hidden but with socket 3" extention and 3/8 drive rachet it can be removed. The other bolt is visible at the top outside corner of the opening for the headlight in the cowl. You may need to remove some material over the bolt from the cowl for better accessand then use 13mm socket (shallow well) with atleast 9" of extension to remove this bolt. The hood can then be opened as the latching bars and springs will come up with the hood and then can be released from the latches.

Instrument Panel and Pad REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If so equipped, unfasten the inside hood release handle.
  3. Remove the steering wheel and the lower steering column cover.
  4. Remove the glove box, switch panel and console. Fig. 1: Loosen the retaining nut to unfasten the inside hood release handle 85810013.jpg

  5. Remove the meter (gauge) hood, heater control panel mounting screws and separate the heater controls from the instrument panel frame. Remove the combination meter.
  6. Remove the air duct(s) and the steering shaft mounting bracket bolts. Allow the column to lower.
  7. Disconnect and label the meter wiring. Unfasten the mounting bolts and remove the crash pad and instrument panel. Fig. 5: Some of the instrument panel attaching bolts are hidden behind removable trim covers or plugs. Carefully pry off the cover . . . 85810006.jpg

    To install:
  8. Position and fasten the crash pad and instrument panel, being careful to route the wiring correctly. Attach the meter wiring to its appropriate connections.
  9. Raise the steering column to its normal operating position and install the steering shaft mounting bracket bolts. Connect the air ducts.
  10. Install the combination meter. Install the heater controls into the instrument panel frame with the mounting screws. Attach the meter hood.
  11. Install the console, switch panel and glove box.
  12. Install the steering wheel column cover and steering wheel.
  13. If applicable, attach the inside hood release handle.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hi how do i get access to bolts to remove starter on a 97 voyager they seem to be behind the manifold & obscured by steering rack or am i not looking in right area? thanks mark hopkin


1. The Upper Bolt is easily accessed from the front of the vehicle going OVER the right side of the radiator. It is partially hidden by the exhaust manifold (front-to-back) and a black brace. There is a large gauge black ground wire going to where a nut(s) are located. This first nut will allow you to take off the ground connection, however the bolt has another nut further in (to the left) which is totally hidden. Remove the first nut.
2. After the first nut is off, remove the ground wire, then using a deep socket 15mm socket remove the second nut which is welded/attached to the bolt.
3. Go under the vehicle to remove the wires from the Starter. The first wire is the positive cable (should be red) attached on the solenoid portion of the starter. Remove the nut and lock washer and detach the wire. The second wire (single small gauge) goes to the solenoid and is connected using a slide lock - press release connection. It is difficult to see the slide lock and the press release located on the top side of the connection. Slide the red slide lock out and press the release, and pull out the connection straight out. Do not force it, or it may damage the connector. Note the placement of the bottom bolt position on the Starter. DO NOT remove the two (2) small, but long connector bolts on the wire connection end of the starter.
4. Remembering the noted postion: remove the lower 15mm bolt from the Starter. The bolt head is located on the back side of a plate moving towards the left side of the Van. It is easily accessed from underneath in front of the transmission. Near the end of removing this bolt, support the starter or it will fall out.
5. Remove the Starter, noting the position of the starter. There should be a separate starter facing plate. If if didn't come down with the starter check up in the starter to flywheel opening and remove the plate.
6. Installation is Reverse of above. The facing plate is a little tricky getting it to stay in place. By starting with the bottom bolt it is easier, Make sure you continuously support the Starter in position to save crossthreading the bolt or starter. Hand tighten only the bottom bolt as you want to be able to turn the starter slightly to get the top bolt in.
Starter Bolts are tigthen to 35 ft-lbs.

Where is the starter on a 1997 toyota corola


under the intake manifold, airbox must be removed to get to the top 14 mm bolt that is hidden behind the wiring harness bracket on the top of the trans. 2nd 14mm bolt is accessed from under the car and is right above the axle. if you remove the r/s splash shield you should be able to sneak the starter out from there by kind of sliding it along the axle if you don't want to remove the axle itself. it is a little tight but it will come out that way
