I would check the battery connections and see if they are loose. if your fuel pump was bad the car wouldnt start. first check your battery and then go from there .. it is always wise to replace your fuel filter every 12000 miles or so

My grandmother has a 1991 Chevy Lumina. It just started cutting off whenever it chooses. She gassed the pedal and the engine sputtered and cut off. What could be the problem? Could it be a dirty fuel...

I knew someone with a 92 Lumina who had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. If she has had the car for a long time and never had it changed, then it's definitely a good place to start. If the filter hasn't been changed in a while or possibly ever, then it should be changed. When it's a fuel related problem, it's usually worse when the engine is cold. If it's a catalytic converter problem, then it usually gets worse the longer you drive it.
Fuel system problems are usually checked with a fuel pressure gauge. the injectors must have a constant supply of fuel delivered at a certain pressure at all times for proper engine operation.
Catalytic converter problems can be checked by removing the converter and installing a test pipe. If the problem goes away, then the converter should be replaced. I hope this information has been helpful.

1990 lumina will not stay running...is hard to start but when does it will not stay running ..dies out within 30 seconds ..had been stauling out at lights and such for a few weeks but now is worse.

check/change the fuel filter, and check the fuel pump. Be careful, the fuel will run out, sometimes under pressure. I suggest eye protection, Test it by disconnecting the fuel line on the tank side, then have someone turn key to on position (not all the way to start) there should be a short burst of fuel,. That is the prime, then turn key to start and the fuel should be pumped out steadily. If you get these results, pump is good, replace filter.

On my 1995 Chevy Lumina I replaced the battery, starter, fuel line and & filter but it still won't crank up, what could be the issue?

it could be the pump. have someone turn the key but not start and listen by the tank for a short 1 to 2 second hum. If you hear nothing then your pump is bad and you will need to remove the gas tank.

My 1990 v6cheyv lumina will start and idol

I'm assuming you replaced the filter?? Test fuel pressure at the rail. Could be other issues that need testing, losing spark for some reason, injectors failing? Hopefully someone knows of acommon issue for more help.

I have a 92 lumina that wont start it cranks fine ..so i checked and im getting spark..so i moved to the fule i sprayed starting fliud and it started for the few seconds still fluid was gone, so i pulled...

Try changing your filter first if that does not work it could be your pump. It is possible for the pump to still pump fuel up through your filter but if it is not putting out sufficient pressure then your car wont start. Most fuel injection systems require around 35psi to fire the injectors.

Car cuts off when braking and cornering

Could be a fuel pump issue. If the pump isn't putting out the required volume, the motor will starve during certain manuvers. Check your pressure. It should be atleast 40psi (I think, i don't have much gm experience). Also, there should be a spec somewhere for fuel pump volume over a given amount of time. To investigate this you'll have to jump the fuel pump relay and point the fuel lines at the motor into a container that you can measure the volume of. It may be something as simple as a partially clogged fuel filter, but usually when I've come across this it's been the pump going bad.

Car will not start

No spark issue can be from a number of causes. Most likely the crankshaft position sensor. It is sensitive to minor damages. check position of the teeth. If bent carefully straighten. Also can be the ECM (main computer) On cars with no fuel pressure check oil sending unit because a faulty one that tells no oil pressure will make computer cut out fuel pump operation.
