    I'm almost embarrassed to even ask this.....but.

    You did make sure to set the firing order back correctly, right?

  • barcar96 Mar 17, 2011

    Yes I set the firing order back in the right spots did one wire at a time and also wrote down the order from the original coil, light doesnt come on right away i can drive for awhile then on it goes.

    and for the idea of exchanging the plug from 1 and 2 cylinder thats been tried also the origial plug put into 1, and 2 sets of new plugs do the same thing.

Remove the plug from the #1 cylinder, and install it into the #2 cylinder , and put plug from # 2 clyinder in to #1 plug hole, connect plug wires, and start up vehichle, and if computer shows misfire on # 2 cylinder , then you have a bad plug, possibly porcelin insulator could have a hair line crack in it, hope that this information has helped you.

    Barry,

    I didn't think to ask earlier....does the car actually miss? Or is just a check engine light with a code saying "cylinder 1 misfire?

    What is the actual DTC shown when scanned?

    I'm also wondering about a possible injector problem on #1

    Mike

  • barcar96 Mar 19, 2011

    Ok there is a little miss to the idle but not all that bad, the DTC I believe says cylinder 1 miss fire detected. and I put some mid grade gas in with some fuel injector cleaner.
    Yesterday after I cleared the code out with the scan tool, I also dissconnected the battery for about 5 min, and reconnected. Havent gone far with car, going out now for a little bit will see if light comes back on.

I have a 03 pt cruiser turbo. For the past 10 mos the car engine light comes on and then is misfires on 2 cylinders. I have had the crank sensor replaced 3 times, cam sensor 3 times, map sensor, harness...

I don't profess to be able to solve this over this keyboard. But push come to shove I would replace the coils that are setting codes. As far as the dealer goes unless they can confirm the problem they will write NPF (no problem found)

2008 pt cruiser - check engine light came on, within minutes it started to "power down" and and died. Won't start. What could cause this? BTW have changed spark plugs, camshaft sensore, cranks

My PT did that when my timing belt broke. It cost $500.00 to replace it. If it is broken, be ready to have some motor work done. I had to have to values replaced at a cost of $900.00. If your timing belt is not broken then check the alternator and battery. I was riding down the road and my PT shut all the way down and would not start. I had to leave it beside the road. It was my alternator. It gave me no warning.

2001 PT CRUISER MISFIRE CYLINDER 2

Do you know how check the engine codes? Turn the key 3 times and the codes will be displayed where the odometer number is displayed.
If the code is 302 it is spark plug mis fire.
It could be a bad fuel injector.

I blew the turbo on my 2005 pt cruiser limited ed. I replaced the entire turbo,and added new sparks...(only has 52k miles) Since then my car does not get over 65mph without feeling like its stalling...

What kind of spark plugs did you use??? Here is a list of plugs that you can use on your Turbo engine.

Champion
* Copper - stock # 440 - RE14MCC5 (OEM)
* Copper - stock # 470 - RE14MCC5 (supercedes/replaces # 440, but some catalogs same part #)
* Copper - RE16MC (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new Chrysler recommended gap is .040)

NGK
* Copper - LZTR4A-11 (supercedes/replaces RE14MCC5 and new * Chrysler recommended gap is .040)
* Copper - stock # 4306 - LZTR5A-13 (one range colder)

If you use the platinum spark plugs used on the Non-turbo engine, they will start to glow and cause misfires and can cause engine damage to saver detonations throughout the RPM cycle.

As for the over heating, you could have a blown head gasket from a severer detonation if you notice coolant and oil mixing in your engine and coolant tank. The less cause for over heating wold be a bad thermostat or a faulty radiator cooling fan, cooling fan relay or cooling fuse which is located in the engine compartment fuse box by the battery.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

2003 PT Cruiser - check engine light

Use the correct champion plugs for starters, make sure the wire is firing. If the wire is firing, the coil pack is good. You will need to check compression and fuel delivery after that.

Which engine 2.4 Twin Cam or 3.4 V6? The 4 cylinder engine is based on the old Quad4 and I would guess it's either running lean (weak fuel pump) or it's misfiring and you need to replace the spark plugs. Use only AC Delco platinum plugs or it will misfire ( other brands of platinum plugs can cause misfire, especially Bosch). If you have a 3.1 or 3.4 ltr V6 check for leaking intake manifold gaskets.

Timing belt broke changed it engine is missing. could it be

The easiest way to test this is to carry out a compression test. This test will determine if any valves are bent. The test is very easy to carry out. 1.obtain a compression tester. 2. remove all spark plugs. 3. screw tester into spark plug hole. 4. with your foot on the accelarator, crank engine. 5. read the tester reading and write it down. eg. cyl 1 175psi cyl.2 170psi etc. if you have a bent valve one cylinder will be very low compared to the rest.
