SOURCE: I need to see the "how to's" in replacing the one way check valves on my 2001 gmc sonoma 4.3

On the 2001 gmc jimmy 4.3L v6 engine there are two air pump check valves: there's a pipe (about 1" diameter) that comes off each of the exhaust manifolds. the check valves are screwed onto those pipes. then a rubber hose (about 1.25" outside diameter) is clamped to the front of each check valve and connects to the air pump, which is hidden behind the vehicles grille in front of the radiator. typically, if you need to replace these (the life expectancy is about 3-4 years), it starts a chain of events that might be as follows: during the wintertime, water from the exhaust leaks through the worn out one-way check valves, and ends up in the air pump. the water freezes, and the ice jams the air pump, which may or may not ruin the air pump, but which usually blows the air pump fuse, which is impossible to find if you're rummaging around the passenger compartment fuse box or the under-hood fuse and relay box. it ain't there! so if you're looking under the hood leaning up against the front bumper, slide to your left around the passenger side headlight. now you should be looking at the battery, leaning up against the passenger side fender. look down between the battery and the fender. you have to push a few things out of the way, but there you will find a green 30 amp blade fuse (about 1" x 1" fuse--and $2.99 at autozone). this blown fuse should have triggered the check engine light and a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) of p0410 (secondary air injection system). for that vehicle there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) put out by gm (bulletin # 04-06-04-015; march 2004). if you want to print out some literature about all that i've mentioned just surf on over to for more links and documentation. my credentials: self-proclaimed auto mechanic for 26 years (sorry, no ase certification yet [but still trying to find time to study for the tests]) and college dropout (after 3 years of electrical engineering)--so, in other words, don't believe a word i say; just go to that website and get it straight from the horse's...
Good luck and hope this helps. I know you have a Sonoma but we have the same platform. I am thinking of buying a set of headers without the Air injection system and having the jimmy dyno tuned again to eliminate the service engine light and recalibrate the ECM to eliminate the air injection pump.

Wheel speed sensors misadjusted, damaged , or metal shavings and other debree, since they are magnetic can give false readings from one of the wheel circuits. Over sized tires can give of false speed readings as well. there are many other causes including bad relay, control module, e.t.c. It is best to have the proper scan tool to diagnose an ABS problem

SOURCE: fuel pump fuse located on 1997 gmc sierra

The fuse is actually a Relay Switch and its located in the Fuse Relay Center on the driverside of the engine compartment. The Black Box is labled Fuse Relay Center, the diagram on the cap displays which Relay is the Fuel Pump relay...the Relay switch is usually $8-$15 depending on where you shop

SOURCE: check engine light on

Please check the fuel line for leakage. If there are no leakages, verify that your fuel tank cover is well fixed.

Take care.

2001 gmc Sierra 1500 v8. Turns over bt won't always start and when it does start it will shut right back off when u push fuel petel down. It backfires out the exhaust very badly. What could it be?

Maybe there is a problem with valves or valve timing, exhaust valve? I have to ask, how long since a tune-up? Are there any applicable trouble codes? To check codes, yourself, at the least you need an obd2 code reader. Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free, if there are any.
Checking proper fuel pressure is part of a tune-up, in my opinion.

1999 gmc sierra starting back firing and ran rough for a couple miles before stalling and now will not even try to fire. any good place to start looking? Thanks 4.8l v8 w/ auto

Sounds like the fuel pump. Simple check put key in ignition turn to on position Pump should buzz. Another way to check use a rag and hunt down schrater valve on the fuel rail on engine. Wear eye protection put rag around bottom of schrater valve and press down on valve. Fuel should shoot up at you if not your pump is bad.

Auxiliary gas tank for a 2007 gmc sierra

go to jcwhitney they have a full line of replacement and auxiliary fuel tanks, as well has the selector valve that switch's from one tank to the other and this does the switching of fuel gauges as well, just go to or call em at 1-800-529-4486 and you may have to call em as its a 2007 may not be listed yet, check with your dealer and see if 06 is the same just in case, but with the 08s coming out already they should have it in stock, also check, they have a full line as well or call them at 1-800-230-3030
