Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Key won't turn to start the nissan maxima. We have tried the graphite key lubricant, not working. When you push the remote starter, it will start, but the steering wheel is locked and the key has not been turned. When you put your foot on the break or put it into gear, it shuts off. Is this a secuirty system lock of some kind?

Try pushing your shifter all the way forward while trying to turning the key to the off position and pulling the key out. You will most likely have to buy a new shifter lever or the whole shifter assembly.

So the problem has been occuring for a year and you are just now trying to fix it? Sorry, I just simply do not understand why people do this...keep driving it until it won't drive anymore even though you KNOW it has a problem....Maybe you can explain this to me???

If you can hear the starter clicking when you try to start it, then you have a bad starter. If it makes no noise at all. then you most likely have a bad clutch switch.

How do I get my key out of my Nissan Maximas ignition?

I don't know very much about cars myself, but I had the same problem with my 96 Nissan Maxima. It turned out that the button on the shifter knob wasn't releasing all the way, causing the key to be stuck in the ignition. I pushed on the button a few times to get it unstuck and the key came right out. Hope this helps.

My car does not get starter when i turns it on with the key and the starter sistem is working perfectly, but when i push it up it gets started on

If you starting system was working perfectly it would start when you turn the key. If it starts when you push start it you probably have a bad starter motor/solenoid.

The ignition locks up and i cant turn the key to start the car

the lock tumbler pins may be sticking, buy some powdered Graphite lock cylinder lube from a hardware store, use only this special dry lube, any other type of oil based lube will ruin the ignition lock, spray the powdered graphite into the lock cylinder and insert the key and try to work the lock, do this several times and spray the powder in at least twice, if this doesn't free up the lock cylinder then you will need to have the ignition lock cylinder replaced.
