SOURCE: How do you remove the starter off a 2005 GMC Envoy

1st, remove the positive lead to the abttery. Next disconnect the wires from the starter one at a time. I recomment you wrap each with a layer of black electrical tape to protect them. After the wring is removed, remove the bolts to any brackets that are attached to the starter and the two large bolts holding the starter into the transmission housing. Remove the starter. Reverse order to install new starter. Test before your close the hood. It isn't very difficult. If you run into problems, ask me, and I will assist you.

SOURCE: how to remove starter 2003 gmc envoy

It is fairly simple although I still recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle. 1. Disconnect the Negative terminal on the battery. 2. jack up the vehicle and support the vehicle with jack stands. 3. Remove the 2 to 3 retaining bolts, there are always 2 but on some year models they put 3 you will see them. Be careful that you don't let it drop so far it breaks the wires. 4. Remove the wiring connectors. Reverse the process to install the new starter.

The new starter may have to be shimmed to engage the ring gear but another possibility is that the ring gear is damaged.

Where is the starter in a 2006 GMC Envoy?

The starter is located under the vehicle back where the engine and transmission bolt together. You may have to remove a splash shield to see or gain access to it.

How do you remove starter?

It would be really nice to know WHICH ENGINE your Envoy is equipped with. The instructions for replacing the starter are TOTALLY different, depending on which engine you have.

2005 GMC Envoy. Wining sound from under the car at startup.

Hello,
I suggest checking your starter motor. If the starter motor is staying engaged it could be a bad solenoid or a bad ignition switch.

I hope this helps.
