Thanks for the information. I still have on star and get thier monthly information e-mail, and thier reports indicate my current mileage. So far, i cannot see the left side info, but i can still barely see the gear shift mode.I've found a guy locally that can repair, and all stepper motors are functioning just fine, so far. From what i'm told, as long as i have onstar, it'll keep the mileage up to date. well, we will see what happens next. Thanks again.

{: ) You may wish to record the latest odometer and engine hours reading while still visible, just for future purposes. The problem is an internal circuit failure on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Sooner or later the two message screens on your IPC will totally go blank and goodbye, so be prepared.
A replacement IPC will be that of later models, it will be programmed to your vehicle, and the trip odometer (total mileage) will be reset to zero.

WHY DOESNT MY 2003 CADILLAC SEVILLE HAVE ANY POWER AND DOESNT WANT TO SHIFT EASILY

1. Verify the exhaust system is not plugged. Check for less than 1.5 PSI backpressure at 2,000 RPM in park, or open the exhaust before the converter.

2. Check the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) for 4.8-5.0 volts Key On Engine Off (KOEO) and about 1 volts at idle.

3. Check actual engine vacuum at idle at 2000 RPM.

4. Unplug the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, reset fuel trim to 0%, and road test. ALSO CHECK FOR FAULT CODES IN THE OBD SYSTEM.

Both error codes you have are transmission related. P0736 is an error for reverse has wrong gear ratio. P0700 is a general transmission problem code

2wd vs AWD

Page 13 of owner's manual says:
AdvanceTrac
(if equipped):
Illuminates when the AdvanceTrac
system is active. If the light remains
on, have the system serviced
immediately.
AWD locked (if equipped):
AWD
Illuminates when all wheel drive
LOCKED
(AWD) is engaged/activated. If the
light continues to flash, have the
system serviced.

Page 224:
ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
Your vehicle may be equipped with an All Wheel Drive (AWD) transfer
case. With the AWD option, power is supplied to all four wheels
automatically with no need to shift between two-wheel drive and
four-wheel drive. If your vehicle is equipped with the AdvanceTrac
stability enhancement feature, you can change AWD modes, if desired,
by selecting AWD options through the message center.
For the lubricant specification and refill capacity of the AWD transfer
case refer to Maintenance and specifications chapter.
If your vehicle is equipped with AWD, a spare tire of a different
diameter than the road tires should never be used. Such a tire
could make the vehicle difficult to control as well as result in damage
to driveline components.
Utility and four-wheel drive vehicles are not designed for
cornering at speeds as high as passenger cars any more than
low-slung sports cars are designed to perform satisfactorily under
off-road conditions. Avoid sharp turns or abrupt maneuvers in these
vehicles.
The following sections, Normal operation, Autolock operation and
Disabling AWD, apply only to vehicles which allow the driver to change
AWD modes through the message center.
Normal operation (vehicles equipped with AdvanceTrac
During normal operation:
• the AWD system is in AWD AUTO mode (AWD LOCKED will
illuminate in the message center for four seconds when you first start
your vehicle). The AWD LOCKED indicator in the instrument cluster
will also come on.
• AWD AUTO mode can be overridden by pressing SETUP in the
message center. When you first press SETUP, AWD <AUTO> will be
displayed, then if you press RESET within four seconds of pressing
SETUP, AWD <LOCKED> will be displayed. AWD <LOCKED> provides
power to all four wheels constantly which allows you to operate your
vehicle in severe winter or off-road conditions such as deep snow, ice
or shallow sand. It is not recommended that you use AWD <LOCKED>
on dry pavement.

Page 225:
• AWD <LOCKED> can be cancelled by pressing RESET in the message
center. (The AWD LOCKED display in the message center will then
turn off and the display will return to AWD <AUTO> for four seconds
when the shift is complete.)
Autolock operation (vehicles equipped with AdvanceTrac
If the AWD system begins to overheat, the system will place itself in the
Autolock mode:
• the AWD LOCKED indicator light will illuminate in the instrument
cluster and AWD DISABLED <LOCKED> will be displayed in the
message center.
• AWD LOCKED will be displayed in the message center for four
seconds and a warning chime will sound. This condition may clear
without any action being taken by the driver.
• the AWD LOCKED indicator light in the instrument cluster will turn
off when the AWD system cools down.
• When the system is sufficiently cooled down, AWD AUTO RESTORED
will appear in the message center for four seconds and a warning
chime will sound.
Disabling AWD (vehicles equipped with AdvanceTrac
When a problem is detected in the AWD system:
• the AWD LOCKED indicator light in the instrument cluster will flash
eight times every two minutes in the message center.
• The message center will then display AWD DISABLED for four
seconds, then SEE OWNER'S MANUAL. A warning chime will also
sound. The warning displays and chime will continue until RESET is
pressed (which will clear the message from the display).
• AWD LOCKED can still be engaged by pressing SETUP (the message
center will display AWD <DISABLED> LOCKED), then pressing
RESET. The AWD LOCKED indicator light will illuminate in the
instrument cluster and the message center will display AWD
DISABLED <LOCKED>.
• To disable AWD, press RESET. The system will go back to AWD AUTO
mode momentarily, then the AWD LOCKED indicator light will flash in
the instrument cluster eight times every two minutes. The display will
then show AWD <DISABLED> LOCKED for four seconds and then
turn off.

Page 226:
• If a serious problem occurs with the AWD system, the AWD LOCKED
indicator light in the instrument cluster will flash 10 times every two
minutes. The message center will also display CHECK AWD and a
warning chime will sound. You can press SETUP to check the status of
the AWD system (which will display AWD <DISABLED> LOCKED),
but the AWD system will be disabled until the system is serviced.
Driving off-road with truck and utility vehicles
AWD vehicles are specially equipped for driving on sand, snow, mud and
rough terrain and have operating characteristics that are somewhat
different from conventional vehicles, both on and off the road.
When driving at slow speeds off-road under high outside temperatures,
use 1 (First) gear when possible. 1 (First) gear operation will maximize
the engine and transmission cooling capability.
Under severe operating conditions, the A/C may cycle on and off to
protect overheating of the engine.

Transmission jumps into 2nd gear and wont shift out. even in first it slips and jumps into 2nd. the display that tells u what gear its in flickers and all the gears are circled so u cant even tell what...

The transmission has gone into 'limp mode' by the sounds of it. When the transmission shifting control system stops working, it defaults to 2nd gear in order that you can still drive the vehicle, so that you can get it to a shop without a tow. The shifting of this transmission is controlled electronically.
Check the wiring and connectors for your transmission for any kind of damage, corrosion, etc. If you are blowing a turn signal fuse with Neutral, something for sure in there is short-circuited.

Transmission wont shift out of low gear, it only does it sometimes. transmission fluid is full.what could cause it

do u have a "yellow check engine light" illuminated on the dash?? if yes, hook up the computer (code reader) and get it checked.
If it gives an unclear/confusing diagnostic then I would suggest u to start from transmission solenoid inspection/test. In most cases this is where the problem is hiding. try to replace the solenoid (buy used to save some money) and see if the problem disappears.
if changing solenoid does not help then it is pretty much clear that the transmission it self needs some work (replacement / rebuild).

Clutch problem. Won't shift. Now it won't start at

A bad clutch will not prevent the engine from starting unless you have the transmission stuck in a gear and not in neutral. Shifting problems can be caused by the clutch or by something inside the transmission being broken causing it to jam up. (could also be both)
You need to have someone there with experience to take a look at it. If there, I'd need to do that to confirm any ideas before even picking up a wrench. Unfortunately, I cannot do that from here!
If the engine turns when you try to start it, then you have a totally separate issue there. Though a total clutch failure may have damaged the crank position sensor. Not shifting could be due to a failed clutch, clutch master or slave, bad synchro gears or other gears inside the transmission. Not shifting and engine not turning could be due to a failed clutch and broken internal trans gears. So, without seeing it, anyone can only guess at what has failed.
If you need help with anything specific once you get the problem narrowed down, just ask.

check the fluid and all the wiring plugs going to the transmission.it is not uncommon for oil to drip onto a plug and cause bad readings,or vacuum lines that are cracked.

1990 nissan hardbody only shifts into 4th and rev gear no other gears, the shift lever moves to the other gears but but truck will not move

Injt: From your description, it sounds serious. If you are describing a Nissan 5 speed transmission, here would be my best guess as to what has occurred. Prior to near total self destruction, these symptoms will show up when counter gear bearings have failed.
At first the transmission will just seem a little noisy, but you probably might not notice that the noise is not present in 4th.
As the bearings deteriorates, the countergear will slowly start dropping and the gears will no longer be running properly aligned.
The noise at that point would be quite obvious. You would hear it in all gears but 4th. With the car at a standstill in neutral with it running and the clutch pedal released to where the transmission is turning, it would sound like a bucket of rocks loose, rattling in the tunnel area of the car. When you depress the clutch in, the noise would disappear. The reason you could run it in 4th is because it is the only gear in which the input shaft and output shaft are locked solid with no relationship to the counter gear. The truck/car can be driven in 4th for this reason. (It doesn't need the counter gear)
Reverse gear is a large gear located at the very center of the transmission next to the Steel center section which you would see sandwiched between the front casing and the tail housing. It is not much more than 1"" thick. Because Reverse is right at that location, even though it does need the counter gear to transfer power, it is the only gear in the transmission which is "SPUR" cut and not helical cut. This design gives it a distinct advantage to operate in a misaligned state with greater spacing. It will still make quite a racket in reverse, but it will move. I am 99% sure that this is your problem. Should this be the case, the transmission has been run far too long to consider repairing. It would probably be scrap metal inside. Find a used one or get a re manufactured one.
I have found that the synthetic gear oils have worked well in our Nissan 300Z race cars we use for road racing. They have basically the same transmission. I am partial to Amsoil and Redline. Both have performed beyond expectations on the track.
I hope I have answered you question.
