the injection pump has bit the big one.. The metering valve is stuck in it and there maybe other parts stuck as well. Suggest replacing the IP

yes it sounds like the pressure regulator. the only way to be sure is have a scan machine put on the truck, then you can see the pressure when truck is cold.They are quite pricey so dont just change it without checking the pressure first.

The car starts and idles fine but when stopping at a stop it dies, but it will restart. It has approx. 150000 miles and it did sit for awhile. I don,t know when the fuel filters were changed last.


forget the fuel filters you are barking up the wrong tree here ,you have either a perished engine breather pipe ,or a fault with a air leak on the inlet manifold ,providing that your 1990 year of manufacturer is correct

The mechanic should check on the idle .Because the Idle of the truck is adjusting by it self . That causes the truck to stop .check the Idle then lock it up to so that it will not adjust until it will make the truck stop .the main reason why the truck stop and pressure guage going down steadily is that no fuel enters the fuel pump when it adjust Idle by it self . It adjust by closing way or blocking the fuel to pass and go to the engine.then the engine dies .
