Question about Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

I have to replace the serpentine belt AGAIN on my car. I don't know why it keeps splitting. I have spent an ENORMOUS amount of money already on this. I need a correct diagram of the engine to do this myself. I know that there is a secret or hidden screw on the bottom of the engine that likes to split the belt. This has been a problem for even the PROFESSIONALS. What tools are needed besides the crow bar and the thing to loosen the tensioner, if any? A diagram is the most important thing right now. I have hit Advance Auto and Autozone; and I already have the Haynes book on repair and it is worthless. I am at the SECOND library in Broome County here; and incredibly, They don't have the Chilton Repair book either. I am stunned over this. Thank you very much Diana R Smith

2002 dodge grand caravan sport belt squeals when it rains

The serpentine belt tensioner is a spring loaded device that pulls the right amount of pressure to keep the belt for falling off, as well slipping.

This unit has a short life span, that of the belt, and in most cases it is recommended that it should be replaced at the same time as the belt.

I am 90% sure this is the issue.

I hope this helps

My 2005 nissan frontier need 4000.00 worth of repairs relating to serpentine belt whining at start do u know what has to be replaced to cost that much

When did they start putting gold in a serpentine belt? The serpentine belt only cost about $40 dollars tops. Who told you $4000.00 for this? If it was a shop or a mechanic PLEASE finds a new shop or Mechanic. You could replace the whole front end for that amount of money. I recommend 2 things. 1. Find a different shop or mechanic for doing your repairs the one that told you this didn't give you the whole story as to what they think is wrong. 2. Get a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual on your vehicle model and year from Auto Zone or Advance Auto so you have a better idea of what the problem could be based on the symptoms you are seeing.

As another option, you could post a description of what was happening that made you take the vehicle to a shop to begin with and we could possibly narrow this down to a specific problem that could be fixed. Fact is for 4k I can replace an engine or rebuild one and pocket a lot of money. Even if you had to replace the Alternator ($200), Water Pump($140), AC Compressor ($400), Power Steering Pump ($200), Harmonic Balance Pulley ($50), and Tension Pulley($60), which is essentially everything that is pulley driven on the front of the engine you only come to $1040 in parts add another $1000 in labor and you still don't get to $4000. The serpentine belt itself only cost about $40 in most areas and depending on what has to be removed to replace it about an hour in labor so depending on where you live, to have a shop replace the Serpentine belt would cost about $140 max.

At what mileage should the serpentine belt be changed in a 2006 mazda 3

I have been taught to change the hoses every 3 years, and the belts between 50 to 75 thousand miles. Every once in a while, check the belts for cracking, splitting, and uneven wear. I do keep spare belts in the trunk, in the tool box. you never know. hope this helps

I have a audi i cant put the surpentine belt back in

Click on the following Direct Link. I know you said Serpentine (correct spelling) Belt and this Link has Timing Belt; however this does have the Serpentine Belt Diagram and also some key instructions to putting it back-on. After going to the Link, scroll down the page (to about half-way down the page) to Diagrams: G00039904, then G50H16367, then G50J16369.
In Diagram G00039904: it has the "Hinged Mounting Bracket" which has the Pulley holding tension on the belt keeping it tight. This must be loosened (NOT REMOVED) in order to get a serpentine belt back on. Then re-tightened in order to have the correct amount of tension.
In Diagram G50J16369: this Hinged Mounting Bracket has Mounting Bolts which again must be loosened (NOT REMOVED) in order for the hinge mounting bracket to move - loosening the Pulley = loosening the Serpentine Belt.
There are a couple of additonal Diagrams regarding the Electric Fan Mounting Bolts etc., that are useful for your reinstallation.

Motor mount replacement at 93000

Your best bet would be to pick up a Chilton manual from autozone. It will give you step by step instructions on how to do all kinds of things with your vehicle, including the motor mounts.

How do you replace a crankshaft sensor for a 1997 olds Delta 88?

There are two crankshaft sensors located at the edge of the harmonic balancer. That's the large wheel coming out of the engine, passenger side, the wheel that powers the serpentine belt. One sensor is the crankshaft position sensor and the other is... I forget... crankshaft angle sensor or something. I replaced both on my car. I don't know wich one is your problem. When you buy a sensor, get the one with the mounting bracket already attached. They had problems with the sensor getting damaged from being adjusted wrong. Having the bracket already attached gives you the right adjustment.

Remove the serpentine belt. (It has a tensioner wheel. When that is moved, the belt becomes loose and can be removed.) With an 18 mm wrench, turn the crankshaft until one of the openings in the metal fin is at the sensor, giving a space where the sensor can be removed. One sensor is reachable from the top, but it is real hard to see. The other is reachable from underneath. My guess is, the lower one is you problem only because my lower one failed twice and the upper one only once. Your son has to crawl underneath, unhook the wire from the sensor, and unbolt the sensor mounting bracket. Put the new one in. Keep your fingers crossed.
