It sounds like the cooling system is low on coolant or you may have a bad thermostat.another problem you could have is the head gaskets have a leak and it heats up then when the gasket starts to leak the cooling system pressure pushes the coolant out of the motor showing as a coolant leak or it is being drawn into the cylinder and burnt causing the heat to go away and blow cold.

Top engine stays cool while bottom half gets hot. water reservoir high while radiator low.

First You have to bleed out all the air in the cooling system.
If that doesn't fix it then the system is probably clogged. Also the thermostat could be not opening.
Hope this helps.

Car gets hot when Idle

You might check your cooling fan at the radiator; it may not be running. If it's not, track it down (fuse or thermal switch) and fix it!

What would make my jeep quit running and start back later

a fuel pump can cause this as when it gets hot it may shut down and restart when it cools off.the other thing it could be something(ignition module)that when it gets hot shuts down until cooled off.

The heater gets hot and then it gets cold! what is the problem?

if the heater gets hot when it is idling but cools down when you are going down the road, suspect the thermostat. If the heat just comes and goes when driving down the road you are probably low on coolant, whit for the engine to cool and remove the radiator cap and refill the radiator, don't just try to fill it by putting collenty in the reservoir........GOOD LUCK
