SOURCE: alternator not charging

You may need new brushes internally on your alternator. It could be grounding out and preventing the unit from charging. As for the other gauges check all the fuses under the desh and under the hood is you have them. Make sure all conections are tight to the starter and the battery. Make sure all wires are strong and sturdy.

Drain the system. Remove the upper radiator cover and the dual cooling fans (4 bolts and an electrical connector). Disconnect the transmission cooler lines and the upper and lower hoses.. The radiator should freely pull straight up and out. Reverse the process to install the new radiator.

Yes it means the clutch pack or seal is out and has to come out and apart you can buy a rebuild kit for $150.00 thats all seals clutches and bands and you would need help in order to rebuild it, the rebuilding would take 8 hours for a trained mechanic and 2.5 to 3 hours to get it out and back in again. If you need the information on where to buy parts and have them shipped I can help you out on that part. yo will need some inner and outter snap ring plyers to do it. and if you let it go to long you will damage the output shaft and that gets real epensive. was the fluid brown and smelled like onions? Hey by the way rate me since I am giving you all this free info.if you get me in a live chat I can give you all the things you will need to know and how to do everything.

SOURCE: rack and pinion removal and installation

it is sort of a strange deal but you have to remove the cowl and the wiper assembly and access it through there. You can get the step by step instructions from autozone

Sounds like the coolant is getting on the belt causing it to slip on the pulleys. As with most 20 year old vehicles leaks are common as very few have received the attention they need [ regular service including replacement of hoses and such ]. You can try a stop leak in the cooling system & leave the radiator cap loose on the first detent, but chances yuor friend is right = the waterpump is leaking. If you use just water in the cooling system it will rust up and sediment will plug the smaller ports causing more problems.

How do i change the rack and pinion in a 97 lumina?

In most cases the rack assembly comes out through the wheel compartment on one side or the other. You must remove the tie rod ends, power steering lines and then the rack itself.

If your getting a grinding noise when turning it's probably in the power steering. If you leaking fluid you have a hole, more then likely in the high pressure line or the rack and pinion is bad.
