I can not get the trunk to open either. It will not work with the key. The key turns but that all. Not opening. Then, I went to get a new key thinking maybe the teeth are worn down. Nope this key will not turn.

This is a 2-door 2000 cavalier. Probably gonna have to get in through the rear seat and unbolt the latch. That should at least open it. If, your trunk lock is similar, then its probably the locking pin. An easy fix, replace the little cylinder. Any similar metal piece will do. Beats paying $60.00 for a whole new lock.

I have a 1996 Cavalier... the trunks on these things are insane. When mine was purchased, the trunk wouldn't close. My mechanic went through and sorted it out, and the problem was electrical! The whole trunk is wired so that if it malfunctions, it stays open no matter what and you have to get a whole new computer. It's absurd but true.

I hope it's just the locking pin for your sake - go to the junk yard and get a good mechanic to get it in there... it costs like $2.00 for the part if you take it out of the junk yard yourself.

The outside door locks/trunk lock will most likely not work due to the key not being able to be inserted/turned in the lock cylinder due to lack of use. Spray WD40 into door lock cylinder using supplied straw and insert key until it goes all the way in using sawing motion. If lock cylinder still will not turn continue sawing motion with key while holding gentle turning pressure on the key. This will usually free up any sticky/seized lock cylinder wafers and allow the cylinder to turn

Just started today I cant get the trunk open. The key doesn't seem to turn all the way and the trunk release leaver located next to driver seat also will not open it.

You may have jammed some material into the latch. A rag or cloth or even paper can cause sudden binding on the latch to the point it won't open. Find a partner to assist you to press down firmly onto the trunk lid to try to relieve excess pressure on that latch, while the other person tries to turn the key and/ or pull that lever.

If that does not work, try the opposite force (ie. pulling upward on the trunk lid) and doing the same. If bad enough, this may take a while, with effort. But be careful NOT to break off your key in the lock cylinder.

If this fails, try accessing the trunk from the rear seat (even removing it). You may even see the culprit from there as the material will be stuck, requiring firm pulling to get it out of that latch.

If, when you finally do get the trunk open, if it turns out it was NOT an obstruction, your lock mechanism may just be bound up. To free it spray liberally with penetrating oil such as PB Blaster. Allow to soak a bit, then repeatedly rotate the lock with the key. It will soon work like new!

What is the lock for down at the drivers seat near the petrol cap release latch?

It locks the lever that opens the trunk of the car so you wont be able to use that lever to open the trunk from inside the vehicle. The master key should fit in it. You will still be able to open the truck with the key on the outside right at the trunk with the key even if you have the lever locked. It's a security thing. I hope this helps.

My 2005 ford focus has a red light that just came on. It looks like a lock and now it wont start. What is this?

This is the key security system. Somehow youv'e set it off. Used the wrong key tried to open the door with the alarm on. Opened the door or trunk from the inside after locking it from the outside. If your the real owner of the car it'll be no problem to get it fixed. If you have the correct key lock the doors from the outside with the key and lock it twice ( the doors ( all of them ) should lock). Leave the car alone for a minute, maybe 5. Then unlock the door twice, all the doors should unlock the second time. Enter the car and start it with the key. If you with a remote door lock fob that can work too. If this fails then try a different door or even the trunk. Sometimes the driver doorlock switch wears out or gets ice in it and unlocking a different door or useing the remote can get you going again.
