Question about 1997 Chevrolet C1500
I HAVE A 1997-CHEVROLET TAHOE/SUBURBAN/C1500 SERIES. I PUT THE BRAKES ON WHEN I START IT AND TRY GETTING OUT OF PARK, IT JUST STAYS AND ON PARK. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN 2 YEARS AGO, BECAUSE THEY HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM. IT SOMETIME WORK AND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE IT , COULD IT BE THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN, OR TITL STEERING COLUMN OR PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES? HELP, SOMEONE. NOT AUTOMACANIC, KNOWLEDGEABLE. CONNIE
Btsi solenoid on right side of steering column about halfway up column unplug and check green wire with test lamp while depressing brake pedal lamp should turn on and off if not replace brake lamp switch or check wiring if test lamp lights replace btsi solenoid

There is a Brake light/Park interlock switch on the end of the steering column that is on top of the rod that goes into the brake master cyl that is either out of adjustment or needs to be replaced. If you start the engine and can't shift out of park, if you shut the engine off, you can step on the brake and shift to neutral, then start the engine until you get the interlock switch adjusted/replaced. I have been starting my 97 Silverado like that several times (only does it when the cab gets over 100 degrees sitting out in the Florida sun) for the last two years.
