Question about Buick Regal

1 Answer

The compressor is making a lot of noise and I can see filings from above in and around the belt. Its winter and we're not using the a/c. Is there a bearing that may be the cause? This is a 3.8L engine.

Call around to some local junkyards and see if any have a used compressor to fit your car. if so go plunk down 35 bucks and buy one. then put it in your car make some effort to cleanly and quickly connect the hoses, when it gets warm take it to a radiator shop and ask them to recharge your system. even if the compressor is no good as a compressor, at least your serpentine belt fit and everything else worked until the weather got warm.

more information would be advisable year make model engine --if you have a serpentine (a single belt )leave belt on unless compressor is stuck seized because all other accessories will be affected if compressor is by it self can remove with out problem it wont affect your defrost in winter

1993 cutlass a/c making loud noise

air compressor clutch bearing is failing - repair if too costly a rebuilt unit installed by yourself plus Pro - one in a can recharge of freon will be needed. If above not do able - remove main serpetine drive belt + measure and by trial and error acquire Shorter Belt to Fit everything without going around Air Conditioner pulley . Noise will be gone but no Air Cond. and this is cheapest route but getting right shorter belt Length is Time consuming .

Very loud clanging noises started while driving

Try to remove the belt for the ac and see if you still hear the noise, as it sounds like you may have blown the seal or bearing out of the ac compressor , not sure just a guess.

My AC compressor went out on my 2004 Chevy Blazer. Since winter is here, I just want to bypass the ac. I bought a belt for the same yr/make without ac. Where can I find a serpentine belt routing diagram to...

its the same. but a different pulley takes place of the a/c compressor. I know DORMAN makes a few "bypass pulleys" to do this, but dont know if they make one for your truck. at the worst... you will need to get a pulley and bracket from the dealer for a truck without a/c . as long as your a/c pulley bearing is ok, you can let the belt run there.

I have a 1996 3 litre voyager it runs all right around town but when i go for along run it cuts outas i am completing the journey i have just had the ac regassed after a long period of not being used and...

Not sure but you may need to replace the air compressor itself. Mine did that and because of the age of the van it cost too much to repair so we just bypassed the compressor but we had to get a used compressor from a junk yard with no wires to make the belt work. Thirty dollars was cheaper than a four hundred repair job.

1999 Grand am gt chirping noise

Certain brands (cheapo) of serpentine belt will do this. It is because the new belt is thinner than the old belt. This causes reduced spring tension by the belt tensioning device. Other possible problems are a bad belt tensioner, driving through deep water and getting the belt wet while driving or a defective crankshaft harmonic balancer assembly.
I HATE Dayco brand belts, because they do this a lot. I would have the shop inspect the parts mentioned above. If they are OK, tell them you want a new belt (for free).

Screeching sound from engine

I can pretty guarantee you it is your altrnator belt.. By turning on your headlights, it creates more load on the alternator, which in turn makes the belt work harder. To confirm, you can try some silicone spray on the belt. The noise should change or disappear. This happens a lot in winter when dirt gets on the belts.
Usually that will solve it. If not, you may have to get the belt changed.
Good luck,
