The coolant light being "on" indicates that either your car has not warmed up or you're actually low on coolant.
Check your coolant level by way of the coolant container in the engine compartment. If it is low (check marks on the container and fill to level as necessary.

SOURCE: Heater Blows cold air

You could have a blocked heater core. Check for two heater hoses running into the firewall in the back of your engine. They should be together and about 5/8" in diameter. If one is hot and the other is cooler then your heater core is blocked. Unhook both hoses and use a garden hose to back flush. Be sure to catch the coolant and dispose of it properly.

One of two things has happened. Either your coolant has gotten really low (easy enough to check) or you heater core is starting to plug up.

My first thought was low coolant, but with the added point about the ac I'm leaning toward a blend door problem under the dash.

Seem to be losing coolant cant see leak now engine runs rough

Sounds like a leaking head gasket. The coolant could be leaking into a cylinder and is being burned out the exhaust.

Engine overheats and heater blowing cold air

You have air trapped in system , change thermostat , bleed air from system , let it run hot while adding coolant with blower full blast on all front and rear heaters .

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.
