99 Jeep Cherokee revvs and then dies

I was sitting at a red light with engin fully warmed. Went to step on the gas, the engin reved to 3K or 4K RPMs and then died. Started right back up and drove with no problem. The next day I was turning a corner and the engin reved but did not die. It had no power and wouldn't repond for a while. Then it responded to my stepping on the gas. It shifted and on it went. Help!?

Is the check engine light on?? My 99 Grand Cherokee has had a myriad of electrical and computer issues, and sometimes goes into a "limp mode" The check engine light comes on later. Remember, if the light is on from a known problem, and something else goes wrong, the light just stays on like an idiot...so if the light was already on you may have more than one issue...how many miles on it? Recent repairs? More info please.

You might want to keep an eye on the code reader below; it's helped me several times and the price is subject to weather, well, it seems that way.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94169

I paid $29.99 for mine on sale which they do with some frequency.

Check to see if you have a store near you, they often have store sales.
Be careful though; if you get on their mailing list and you see something you like, bring the flyer with you.
They will honor the price but they have three separate divisions; Internet, mail-order and stores.
The prices may be all over the map sometimes and some of the hand tools are junk; keep your eyes open.

Have you scanned the system for fualt codes? An O2 sensor will never cause the engine to stall out like this, NEVER.

99 jeep cherokee after sitting 6or10 hours or more.starts fine,i here the fuelpump working.within the first few miles it just dies i have to crank it a bit but it starts back up and so far keeps running...

If its warmed up it runs OK? The coolant temperture senser may be lying and saying the motor is warm when it's not. If the check engine light is on it may be indicating that or some other equally damaging problem. Most auto parts stores will connect to your Jeep and tell you what the codes are for no charge. Some stores may even reset the light for you. The coolant senser can lye and not turn the light on. A true scanner( not a code reader. can tell the values of the sensers as the Jeep runs. f the car is cold and the scanner says it's 180 degrees coolant you have found the problem. A wrong senser that has turned the cheak engine light on can have the computer sub a good value for a warmed up car so the car will still run, but not nessaryly the best till the check engine light is investagated and repairs are made

99 Jeep Grand...Idle up and down and now a check engine light

Sounds like an air leak somewhere after the air filter chamber. With engine idling spray some carb cleaner at different areas along the intake hose and the intake manifold, any place air can get in.If rpms change you have found leak.

2004 jeep grand cherokee idling problem. Revs motor 200 to 500 rpms higher while driving.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

Have you checked fuel pressure at idle and 3k TO 4K RPMS? I once took a crown vic to a local dealer, wanted $1500 for new cats. I did a fuel pressure test, 15 lbs at idle, 0-5 at 3K RPMS and went to 0 lbs. when punched accelerator. Was a $6 fuel filter.
