Question about Ford Transit Connect

1 Answer

Hi I have a touneo connect on a 07 plate o have owned it for 6 months and it has 60000 miles on the clock. It firstly started by burning the altenator having replaced that the starter motor went which I also replaced. After a week it developed a knocking noise which was put down to a power steering pump this was also changed and temporarily resolved the problem but it has started up again. Have u any ideas why so many problems have come about and could, there be a underlying cause.

How often oiol change on 2004 avalon

If you have an extended warranty that requires a certain schedule, follow that. Otherwise, per the testing that Consumer Reports did a few years ago, six months/6000 miles is fine. Shops want you to come in at three months/3000 miles, but based on long-term (60000 miles) wear testing that they did on multiple cars (NYC cabs), there was no difference in wear between 3000 mile and 6000 mile intervals.

It is common practice to replace belts that are 3 years or older depending on the type belt it is. The stretch and break over time with heat and cooling that goes on. Some mechanics are not trained in the proper maintainance of belts and hoses You should be having the timing belt change to. I believe if it is the ribbed type belt it is supposed to be replaced at 60 thousand miles. If you don't and the belt fails it's a $3000.00 repair minimum so $200.00 IN maintiance is in my opinion worth it. And belts can just fail even new ones. However you could also have a Tensioner pulley bearing going out causing the problem so I suggest you try a different shop. Hope this helps and thanks for using fix-ya.

Hoses about every 6 years, Belts every 30k And if its that clean, Drive it and make sure it shifts out ok warm and hot, Get it up to 50-60 mph with all sounds off and listen for a whine even a slight wine, If none heard id say buy it, The whine i spoke of is rear diff noise by the way.

I have a 2004 XG350 with 56918 miles on it, I was told 5 years or 60000 miles to do timing belt/chain. Should I wait for 60000 since i'm into the 5th year?

Relax, there's still plenty of time. You could go 6 years and 70000 miles with only a slightly greater chance of failure, there's plenty of over-engineering. But, if you're still under warranty and want to keep it, then change it at 59999.

Because explaining and walking you through the steps would be so long, and most likely confusing without pictures and diagrams, I would advise you to get a Haynes manual for your car. Trust me, best thing you can spend your money on.
