Question about Chevrolet C2500

6 Answers

Sirs, I have a 1978 Chev 3/4 ton pickup with power windows. I put both windows down this morning and neither will go back up now. I pulled and cleaned both switches as I have done in the past but that didn't help. I believe there ias a relay and breaker for these windows but I do not know the location. Your help would be appreciated. Ken Sussman

Both power windows will not go up.
The problem with both windows started at the same time.
I don't know where the relay and breaker assembly is located and a test procedure.

I need to know exactly where the breaker and relay for the power windows are. I knew they were either under the dash or hood. I would like to know how to identify them.

I have a 78 Chevy too with same problem. I found the circuit breaker, it is under the dash, on the right side of the brake pedal bracket. If you look up there, it has screw that holds it in place and has two big wires and one small one. Mine has power to the breaker but not through it. I believe the wires are orange with a black tracer. Good luck. My windows won't go down.

There will be a big black box on the driver side under the hood with all of the relays for the truck. A diagram should be on the inner side of the cover of the box. If you have any more questions or can't find this, please let me know

good luck

The fuse block is up, under the dash in the drivers area.
Here's the diagram for the fuse block

The relays will either be under the hood driver side or in the truck under the dash with the fuse box. The fuse box is either on the lower part of the dash or under the dash near the floor board toward the firewall

If they are standard power brakes, check the vacuum booster. The diaphragm may be broken. If it holds a vacuum it's OK. If the brakes run through the power steering pump, make sure the belt is tight and the steering is smooth.

I'm going to guess that you are complaining about a brake caliper failing to release the rotor when you take your foot off the brake pedal. I had this problem with my 1989 Chev Cheyenne 1/2 Ton Pickup. The brake would lock down and the wheel would become quite warm. I replaced the caliper unit, but that didn't solve the problem. The problem turned out to be a bad flexible brake hose at that wheel. Incredibly, these hoses wear out and are susceptible to collapsing internally causing a restriction in the fluid flow. The hose looked fine from the outside. Once a put a new one on, problem solved! This might be your problem, too.

Other causes could be a malfunctioning proportioning valve, a malfunctioning power brake booster unit, a binding brake pedal, binding brake pads or a sticking piston in the caliper.

Im suspecting a problem in the fuel pickup tube in the tank. Possible rusted and when you have the fuel run to the back of the tank the hole is exposed allowing the pump to pump air and you are in effect running out of fuel pressure.. Suggest you consider pulling the pickup unit and check .

maybe a fuse or a wiring issue. I would check all fuses with a tester first, if they all check good then I would remove the door panel and investigate the switches and wires as it is only effecting one side. Hope this helps tim

May be the distributor. I had the same prob on a 1978 Ford. Get warm, die, wouldnt start until cooled down. Replaced the distributor, no probs. Not the cap, under the cap.

1. Have the refridgerant fluid level checked. (Could be low)

2. Have you tried putting it on recirculate? Could be a venting issue.

Other than that it's out of my league.
