Question about 2001 Chevrolet Prizm

1 Answer

An FM transmitter pulled my cigarette lighter out of place in my 2001 Chevy Prizm. I got the FM transmitter out and pushed the cigarette lighter back in, but it doesn't work. There seems to be a green light behind it now. What can I do?

Sounds like you may have pulled the wires off when you pulled it out. Try to pull it back out and see if the wires are still connected.

How do I replace the cigarette lighter (whole unit) in my 2001 mondeo 1.8 lx?

hey,, remove the negative battery terminal.. use a flat head scrrew driver and a needle nose pliers to pry and pull it out.. It just slips in and clips into place doesn't have any screws. the wires connect to the back have jacks, just remove them and connect it to the new one, and push it right back in until it clips.

its easy as that.

pull CIG fuse first. or battery neg. lug.

most cars, you must pull the bezels first. to expose things
that unscrew.
some embezzles just pry off, id not do it on this old car.
Breakage risk , high .
buying parts from GM GEO is a horror. (yes, sell it)
Unless free, avoid Suzuki's and Geo.s
but all this is in the FSM, buy one on rip-offbay.

I have a 1988 chevy celebrity. How do I remove the radio. I could not get the panel off, which covers the screws, holding the radio in place. There seems to be something near the cigarette lighter holding...

If you haven't solved this problem yet, here is the answer. You have to remove the cigarette ashtray and the mounting bolts, to include the mounting screws that hold the fuse box in place. disconnect the rear defogger from it's wiring and then remove the cigarette clip which is held on by a plastic shielding. It fits on the back of the lighter and can be easily rotated. Then there is a shielding on the cigarette lighter tube that just unscrews. just hold what you think is the cigarette lighter tube and try to unscrew it...it will work. (I just did the same for my car today) then you should be able to remove the grey molding that covers the radio and you will see that it only has 3 screws holding the radio in. I know it sounds like a lot to do, but it's much easier once you see how things work. I hope this helps you out. By the way, I just removed my radio on my 88 Chevy Celebrity, 4dr, 2.5

Cigarette lighter not working

First check the fuse. If fuse is good, the pry out the lighter socket and check that the wire didn't fall off the back which is common. It will push right back in place when your done.

Cigarette lighter

There should be a pair of thin metal tabs along the side of the body of the lighter housing. These need to be gently pulled away so that they click underneath the console when inserted.

Cigarette lighter not working properly in Pontiac...

This is a very common issue, either the ground at the back of the lighter socket is pulled off, or more likely the socket is defective, they are very easy to change, u can use a generic replacement from any parts store, the factory part will be at least 2X as much..
