I recommend getting rid of this car. I own one and at little over 5 years and 80k miles my entire engine went. All because of a plastic piece in the engine. Chevy did not help at all, and said that they had sent out a notice of replacing the plastic part (we never got this notice).

I had to have the engine rebuilt for $1,500 dollars (saved hundreds on labor cause we know the guy). And the engine still runs poorly.

One of the best places for information like this lies in ChevroletForum.com ... not only will someone in the Aveo section have this answer it should provide answers to any future questions you have; saving you money, time and aggravation. Quite a few people that use those forums are actually mechanics at dealerships. Hope this helps!

Hi,
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Mechanic (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Hello erinbeusekom and thank you for asking your question here on fixya.com.

I have actually written a general information article that will walk you through the generall process of changing the fan belt on your 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. It will also point you to the resources you need for getting the diagrams of how the belt needs to go back on.

Here is a link to that article:

Does 2006 chevy Aveo has an engine cooling fan?

Yes, it has too or the car would overheat, check in the rear and front of the radiator.

Ok, i have a 2005 chevy aveo and i ould like to

NOW. These cars are notorious for timing belts snapping and GM has advised to replace at 60K. I have this car and it has an interference engine, meaning that if the belt snaps there is a good chance the engine's pistons will bend the intake/exhaust valves, meaning you would have to have the engine rebuilt if this happens.

I am about to have mine changed, along with the water pump and tensioner since the water pump should be replaced before 100,000 and involves the same labor. I've found that at a Chevy dealership the whole package ranges from $500-$800 depending on who you call.

Idler is too high on start-up, goes up to 2.5-3 rpm. and comes back to normal. just started a week ago. what could be the problem? 2005 Chevy Aveo

I bought my 2004 aveo 49 miles. I've had several issues with the car. But recently I been experiencung high idle at start up and clutching. I change IAC. Plugs and wireds. Nothing worked. Today the high idle became constant. It was a metal bubble flex tube near the IAC unit that goes to the exhaust stuff down behind the motor. It apparently was cracked cause today it broke causing the constant high idle sound like a vacumn. We blocked it off with a stick to get the idle back down to 900 rpm instead of 3-4000 rpm took we can get to auto zone for high temp hose per Chevy dealer. I hope this helps someone cause it was fustrating and costly.

Tune up

At 60,000 you should have all the major things done if you haven't already:
oil change(every 3000)
air filter change(every 15,000)
coolant flush(every 30,000)
spark plugs and wires(every 30,000)
transmission fluid & filter change(every 30,000)
brakes (as needed)
PCV valve (every 20,000)

You can wait until about 75000 miles to do your timing belt.

Hope this helps
