Question about 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4.3 . It is running bad . I used an OBD II scanner and it pulled up a PO300 code which suggests a Laundry list of things that could be wrong . I have replaced, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ,distributor, coil,EGR,catalytic converter O2 sensors. I unplugged battery to reset computer etc. After all of this being done it is very hard to start , idles like a paint shaker, and wreaks like rotten eggs , even after a replaced cat , that was not plugged . Engine light still comes on and PO300 code again saying multiple misfires . Any ideas to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

P0300 should be multiple missfire. check for compression these engines tend to bend valves very easily if ran on old gas or a batch of bad gas. causing it to missfire in more than one cylinder. they also crack heads between valves if overheated.

I would first check for error codes using an OBD-II scanner tool- then research the Diagnostic Troubleshoot Code(s) to point you in the direction of the problem. Most common error is when DIYers read the scanner tool and automatically assume scanner codes pulled will pinpoint the exact problem. Scanner tools vary in scope. The bottom line, use the tool as a starting reference point, but you will have to test the component to make sure it is the one that is malfunctioning. 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500 stuck in 4 wheel drive.

Check the wire harness on the transfer case to make sure it's still plugged in. Check the selector switch in the dash. Check the hub sensor wire harnesses on the front wheels.
Check for error codes through OBD-II connector under the dash.
Good luck.

Can I get the codes by using my on/off ignition switch or do I have to use a reader

To query and OBD-I-era computer for these codes, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to run (not start), then off, then run, then off, then run (that's 3 runs and 2 offs). Leave the key in the run position.

The check engine light will turn on for a few seconds, then turn off, then (sometimes after 20-30 seconds) start flashing. The flashes are counting out 2-digit trouble codes. Fast flashes count up each digit, with a longer pause between digits. On TJ's with a digital odometer, the code numbers are printed on the odometer in addition to flashing the check engine light. 55 indicates the end of all codes. Once you've got your code list, consult the table below to see what they mean.

OBD-II information is more complex, so the codes for 1998 and newer Jeeps can't be displayed by flashing the check engine light. However, those vehicles which have digital odometers will display the codes on the odometer. I've verified this personally on a 1999 WJ. For those vehicles without digital odometers, or for anybody who wants an English description rather than just a numeric code, an OBD-II code scanner ($100-300) can be plugged in under the dash. OBD-II codes can be looked up online here.

These codes were taken from the '95 XJ/YJ factory service manual.

I hope help you woth this. Good luck (rated this).

Codes P0440 and P0300

Hi,

A quick Internet search on those codes pulled up the following info.

  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
  • Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
  • Check and/or replace the sensor
  • Check and/or replace the purge valve
  • Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0300
  • Faulty spark plugs or wires
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector(s)
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)

1996 Chevy Blazer check engine light on

More then likely its the Canister Purge Solenoid. you can find it online at www.autozone.com the part number is PV140. And to replace it on blazer you have to remove the spare tire. Alot of people don't know where this part is so I hope this helps you and good luck.
