How to fix asm emission test failure hc( ppm) max 61 gp 274 meas 690 at 15 mph, at 25 mph max 36 gp 224 meas 804

this is easy,, it can be 1 or 2 problems.

1: CAT is dead or weak, new cats can in fact hide a crappy engine.

2: bad engine. runs like junk and does not burn all its fuel.

any good shop can find this is minutes.

what I DO (no 5gas mach)

i check for (scan tool costing me $9 whole bucks) ask)

i check for closed loop status, idling

if ok then at 15mph and then 25mph , just racing motor in neutral.

if all 3 tests pass, im good.

if any fail, i fix that. bad fueling, bad spark or whatever.

if all 3 pass, its NEW CAT TIME

easy huh? a binary answer.

bad cat, bad motor. (or both)

when i say bad motor that means, every inch of the EFI/engine system.

every drop.

My 1997 Honda Civic failed it's Emissions Test. See below the ASM Emission Test Results. What do you suggest I do to get the car to pass the smog test? ASM Emission Test Results: 15mph - RPM = 1587...

Jose, I don't know if this will give you the answer you are looking for because there are many things to consider here. The exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR) is one of the main things involved in reducing NO emissions. This valve is controled by the power control module. (PCM) This is your vehicles computer. The PCM monitors the vehicles speed and will command the EGR to open when the vehicle attains a certain speed, which is why the ASM test being done is recorded at two different speeds. At 25 MPH your vehicle failed the hydrocarbon (HC) emissions limit and this could be for a number of reasons. When is the last time you car was tuned up? Old spark plugs, wires, clogged air filters, oxygen sensors, leaking injectors (personal experience) or the PCV valve could be contributing to the results of the test. I guess that the easiest way to go is to tune up the engine replacing the spark plugs, wires, air filter and the PCV valve and don't forget to have the oil changed at the same time. Only then should have the vehicle retested and see what the results are. Should it fail again you may have to consider having the EGR or the catalytic converter replaced depending on what portion of the test fails. If the NO fails I would consider the EGR. If the HC fails then I would consider the catalytic converter. Good luck with this.

How do you replace the passenger side low beam on a Pontiac Grand Prix '07? I can't get to it from the back, so I'm wondering if there is a special tool to take off the front lens.

raise the hood. lift upward on the headlamp retainer(its a off white color tab right behind the lamp about the middle of lamp)pull the headlamp asm. outwardenough to release the headlamp asm from the upper fascia support.position the headlamp asm. away from the vehicle body to access the electrical connector. disconnect the electrical connector from headlamp asm.remove headlam asm. from vehicle. remove headlamp bulb /socket from the headlamp ,by turning counter clockwise. remove headlamp bulb/socket from the headlamp asm. install new bulb in socket and reverse procidure .

I have a 1993 Geo Prizm, left rear brake light works intermittently. All other lighting works well. This has been into shop twice, works sometimes. Would hate to have daughter get ticket. Any ideas on...

GM uses a curcuit board design between the plug and the lamp(part of the rear light asm.) they stink, they corrode over time and fail. Not economical to repair, better to replace. consider an OEM replacement. The aftermarket ones don't last.

P1406 - EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve Pintle Position Circuit

You most likely have either a defective EGR position sensor or a peice of carbon holding the EGR pintle valve off it's seat.
