Like a ******** I pulled the distributor on my

pull the spark plug from the number 1 cyclinder, have some tap the key to make the engine jump just a quick tap, hold a long straw down in the sparkplug hole (dont drop it) you should feel the straw move on each tap of the key. you will feel the piston come the whole way up and start to go down, you need to try to catch it when its up the whole way. if you do then take off the distributor cap trace the sparkplug wire that was hooked to the number 1 plug line the rotor up with that wire on the cap slide the distributer back in and slowly line rotor and cap back up again to number 1. tdc put plug back in hook anything back up (cap) should start then. dont forget to tighten distributer bolt before u start it. if it dont start go throw steps again. hope this helps.

1982 ford f150 351 firing order diagram...

Hi, the firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE
The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side, the engine cylinders spark plug locations are numbered.

Where do you set the distributer for no 1 cylender in the manuel it s if you face the truck bottom right, if you have a opicture that would be helpful. 1987 mits mighty max, 2.0 2 wheel drive

Remove sparkplugs. Turn the engine by hand/wrench so that number 1 cylinder(closest to the radiator is on the compression stroke at top dead centre(TDC) Do this by closing the plug hole on number 1 cylinder by hand and feeling for pressure as the engingine is rotated. When you feel pressure that is the compression stroke. Now rotate the engine until the mark on the crankshaft damper pulley lines up with the 0 mark on the cambelt cover.

suzman_37.jpg
Remove the distributor cap and note where the rotor arm is pointed. That would be the Plug wire number 1 position. Distributor rotation is clockwise so starting from this position connect the plug wires clockwise to cylinders 1-3-4-2. In the diagram the distributor cap is shown as you would see it when looking at the top of the cap(looking from the left side of the engine)
suzman_36.jpg

If the distributor was removed then fit the distributor cap. Make a mark on the distributor body correpondinding to where the plug wire 1 would connect to.
suzman_38.jpg
Remove the cap and extend the mark to the lip of the distributor so that it would be visible once the ditributor is fitted. Refit the distributor so that once the distributor is fully seated the rotor points to this mark. Note that the rotor will turn as the distributor is being inserted so this may take more than one try to get the mark matched to the rotor. Also check that once seated the holddown bolt hole is more or less in the middle of the slot in the distributor or you may not be able to adjust timing. Adjustment of the ignition timing should be done with the engine at operating temperature. The idle speed should be correct and if you are at high altitude(above 3900 feet/1300 metres) the electrical connection to the boost sensor on the fender must be disconnected. Also disconnect the the vacuum pipe with the white stripes(if fitted) from the vacuum advance mechanism and plug the pipe.

Engine misfiring.

most all v8's have the same firing order which is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. sparkplug gap seems fine. with the engine off, bend the sparkplug wires between your fingers, if small cracks appear then replace them. number one sparkplug is located at the front driver side of the engine, front to back on this side are cylinders 2,4,6, and 8 respectively. turn the engine to the compression stroke on number one, pull the cap, the rotor points where number one will be.

AM HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING THE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES IN THE CORRECT ORDER ON A 1982 F 350. I KNOW THE FIRING ORDER BUT CANNOT GET THE WIRES RIGHT. KEEPS BACK FIRING

Look and see if your cap has the number ONE on it. That is where you start with #1 wire. Lift the cap off and see if the rotor is going clockwise or counter clockwise. Then fill in your firing order starting with that direction.

Sometimes the distributor is off a tooth and the vacuum advance pot hits something. People will rotate the wires instead of removing the distributor and resetting it. It sounds like you may be overadvanced to get a cylinder to fire with an open valve.
