The most common problem with the 700R 4 and 4L60E is the front pump going out and not putting out the right pressure to engage/dis-engage the gears or a cracked/broken sun gear. This I know for a fact is true as I had the same problem with my 92 Jimmy. The front pump went out, replaced it and now its like new.

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy. It has an automatic transmission. When I put it in reverse it acts like it's in neutral.

Does the transmission actually go into reverse when selected and the indicator shows neutral or does it not go into reverse and the indicator displays reverse and the tranny is in neutral?

On our 1996 gmc jimmy I replaced the transmission now it will not shift at all. did I miss something?

Did the old transmission do the same thing? Could be the control module or bad wiring. Could be you got another bad transmission.

What causes Jimmy transmission to slip in forward gears, but OK in reverse

If your fluid level is right you may have a bad transmission. you need to talk to a mechanic.

1996 jimmy goes forward but not reverse after getting stuck in snow bank?

the valve body in the trnasmission is stuck thats why you should not hammer the back and forth motion on todays cars/trucks they are not built for that abuse only thing to do is have it taken to the transmission shop and have them fix the problem (transmission rebuild) also make sure you go to someone who will not just put a shift kit into the transmission thats just a temp fix

1997 GMC Jimmy, Won't go into reverse,but all other gears work,ok.

Check the automatic transmission fluid color.

It should be lite pink and there is ZERO odor of burn friction material.

TOP OFF is it's low on ATF

=====

Have some one the check on the reverse light when you put the truck into the reverse gear.

NO reverse lights then the neutral safety is falling.

=====

Check for free play on the gear lever. Pay close attention on the transmission end.

USE clear to remove excess dirt.

=====

Inspect transmission pan and the floor for ATF leak.

GMC automatic transmission

I'm told and read a sun shell may be broke. Common problem for this vehicle. Shop will possibly rebuild and use aftermarket kit parts to correct problems the transmission had originally. Cost is probably between $1300 to 1600 to repair. Good luck I got the same problem on a 97 Jimmy and 3 shops said the same thing.
