The problem you describe is the signs of a failing automatic transmission. The transmission is slipping and needs some attention before it gets anyworse. I think your best bet is to get your transmission fluid flushed and replaced. If you don't know if it's been done then it probably hasn't and this could cure a lot of the problem. It's a cheaper solution then a full replacement if it works.
