Oil leak on back driver side motor in a 1994 dodge caravan

Place a piece of white paper/cardboard on the ground below where the leak is coming from soon after the engine is turned off. This should help you locate where exactly the oil is dripping from, and should help identify what is leaking. If the oil is black/brown/gold, it's probably engine oil. If it's reddish/brown, it's probably transmission fluid. If it's clear, it may be brake fluid or power steering fluid (from the rack/pinion). Check the fluid levels for whatever you determine it may be. If it's engine oil, you may have leaking valve cover gaskets or a leaking rear seal on the engine. If it's transmission fluid, you may have bad transmission cooler lines or leaking from axle seals. Check the master cylinder and brake lines if it's brake fluid, and check the rack/pinion if it's power steering fluid.

Transmission leak

More than likely this is the transmission filter gasket leaking. They come as a kit with a new filter and a gasket. Be sure and check the level of transmission fluid as per your manual. If there is not sufficient fluid in there it can ruin the transmission. You may already be experiencing slipping in the transmission. The most common leak on a vehicle is the rear main seal. Nearly every car/truck eventually does that. Any other leaks are not acceptable and your car is trying to warn you.

Transmission leaks fluid. we replaced the gasket but there is still a leak somewhere and it struggles to go in reverse and in 1st. gear

The factory uses silicone sealer on the transmission pans and this is rarely where the leak is, unless someone has tried to replace that gasket before. Most of the time the leak is where the rubber cooler hoses connect to the transmission and the fluid runs down the case behind the solenoid pack and across the front of bell housing and looks like the pan is leaking.Reverse and low gear are controlled by the same solenoid and share a set of clutches.Low fluid is the most likely cause of poor engagement but you could have a bad solenoid pack that could be also causing the leak and or internal damage to the transmission.I would double check the fluid and have diagnostic codes pulled and the CVI (clutch volume index)and get back to me with that info and i will try to give you an isea of what is wrong.

Leaking red fluid

Hi Red or pink fluid is transmission fluid. If you can inspect the car from underneath, take a look. It could be a simple fix like a transmission pan gasket. If it is not the gasket, it could be the actual transmossion pan. Did you run over something which could have punched a hole in the pan?

Where do I put the transmission fluid in a 2000 dodge grand caravan with a 3.3 liter engine??

You add the fluid in the same place where you check the fluid for the transmission. normally a yellow stick labeled transmission and its under the hood on the driver side of course. 4 thumbs up is appreciated if this helps.

2000 DODGE CARAVAN TRANSMISSION LEAK

A good mechanic should replace the seal with in 2-3 hours, mainly tearing apart your drive wheel on that side along with the drive shaft. This is a good time to replace the drive shaft if any of your CV joints are leaking.
Good Luck!! PHX

There are spots of transmission fluid under the car when it is parked for any length of time. I was told that the differential had to be replaced. My car is a 2000 Dodge Caravan.

The cause could be transmission leaks from any number of sources but it should be investigated. Check the transmission fluid level after driving it awhile to warm it up. The fluid should be red, and within the guide marks on the dipstick. If it is dark, it is probably time for a flush. But you still need to address the basic problem which could be a leaky pan gasket, solenoid pack, dipstick filler tube, etc.

To find out which it is you will need to go under the vehicle with a flashlight and check for fluid "tracks" coming off the transmission.
