The Hands Free Link {HFL) works only with Bluetooth enabled cell phones with the Hands Free Profile. If you are not sure if your cell phone is compatible with the HFL - and not all phones are - Acura has a dedicated call center and website to answer your questions on the web go to or dial 888-528-7876 for further assistance. The center is open Monday thru Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm CST, Saturday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm CST, and Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm CST.

The HFL gives the user the convenience of hands-free operation. It can't control the phone's performance (call quality and signal strength). To avoid performance problems, don't put the phones in a metal briefcase or in a purse under the seat.

This guide shows you just a few of the HFL's many features. You will see how to pair your phone to the HFL and then make and receive calls, all using simple voice commands. If you want a complete description of this system, please refer to the owner's manual and quick start guide.

To give any voice command, press and release the Talk button. Always wait for the beep, then give your command in a clear, natural voice. The HFL microphone is on the ceiling, by the front spotlights.

If the HFL doesn't recognize your voice command, you'll hear "Pardon". If after repeating your command, it still doesn't recognize it, you'll hear "Please repeat". If after repeating your command again, it still doesn't recognize it, the HFL sends you to the Help menu.

NOTE: This procedure should be used only if HDS is unavailable.

To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:

Turn the ignition switch ACC (I). 1. Press and hold the HFL BACK button for more than 5 seconds. 2. When the Hands Free Link system enters the self-diagnostic function, the word "DIAGNOSTIC MODE" is displayed on the multi-information display (MID) on the gauge control module. If the system has not completed testing for DTCs, the Hands Free Link control unit audibly outputs "The hands free system test is in progress". If there are no DTCs, the Hands Free Link control unit audibly outputs "The hands free system is OK".

NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN system diagnosis test mode A (see TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A ).

Clear the DTCs with the HDS. 1. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II). 2. Check for DTCs with the HDS. 3.

    Is DTC B1751 indicated?

YES -Replace the Hands Free Link.

Would you be willing to help me? My husband just bought me a 2005 Acura TL. At first, nothing was happening when I hit the talk button. I followed the tips and ended up baking my circuit boards. When I reinstalled them, the system responded. It hears my commands just fine, however, when I go to pair a phone, it doesn't find my phone and my phone doesn't find it. The phone is listed as a compatible phone. Any suggestions? Thank you so much!!

Hands free link stopped working on 2005 Acura tl

You might try disconnecting the battery and then pushing the on button on the radio. Hopefully you have a copy of the radio code nuber in case that is necessary. Then reconnect the car battery and set up your bluetooth link again.

2005 RL Hands free link will not disconnect. No radio

I would try a hard reset. This is done by turning the key on, disconnecting the battery cables, isolating them from the battery posts and connecting them with a jumper wire. This will clear the power from all the capacitors in the audio and HFL systems and hopefully reset them. Leave the cables jumped together for 20 minutes and recheck. Make sure you have your radio and navi codes handy as you will need them to get past the anti theft functions.

I have a 2005 TL, the drivers side headlight works sometimes. Took it to Acura dealer they say it is the inverter, igniter, and possibly the bulb, with a total cost of 1,000 to repair. Can anyone give me...

TL take a D2S type HID bulb available online. If the ballast unit is bad you can find them on ebay a lot cheaper. It's located on the bottom of the headlight. I've even seen full headlight units with the bulb and ballast unit included for a couple hundred on ebay. That would be the easier way to go if you aren't handy with car work. To replace the bulb you need to pull the whole headlight out because Acura uses a security type bolt to secure the back cup onto the headlight. Once the headlight is off the car it's easy to remove the security bolt though with needle nose plyers

We just replaced the battery in our 2005 Acura TL and now the radio will not work. All that comes up on the screen is CODE.

In these vehicles, there is an anti-theft system embedded. In order to retrieve the code, call your local dealer.

Replacing HID headlight in 2004 Acura TL

HID Bulb Replacement

A transient high tension (25,000 V ) occurs at the bulb sockets of the high intensity discharge (HID) lamps when the combination light switch is turned ON, it may cause serious electrical shock or electrocution if you do not observe the cautions below.

  • Never turn on the combination light switch before fitting the HID bulbs to their bulb sockets and completing the reassembly of the headlight assembly.
  • Do not service the headlights assembly in wet conditions, such as rain or snow, near a sprinkler system, or when your hands are wet to prevent electrocution.
  • Do not touch the surface of the HID bulbs with your bare hands and do not stain it with any oils and fats.
  • Do not disassemble the inverter unit and the ignitor unit.
  • Do not turn on the HID bulb by using a power source other than the battery mounted on your vehicle.
  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the XM radio channel preset. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
  2. Turn the combination light switch OFF.
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect the positive cable.
  4. Remove the headlight assembly.
  1. Remove the Torx bolt using a Torx T20 bit.
  2. Turn the cover (A) 45 ° counterclockwise to remove it from the headlight assembly.
  1. Turn the socket (A) 45 ° counterclockwise to remove it from the bulb (B).
  2. Pull the retaining spring (C) away from the bulb then remove the bulb.
  3. Make sure the bulb harness (D) is routed correctly so it does not contact the reflector (E).
  4. Install the new bulb in the reverse order of removal. Make sure the notches in the bulb align with the tabs in the headlight.
  5. After reconnecting the battery, enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the customer's XM radio channel presets.

Heard a similar complaint, try disconnecting the main battery leads. This should clear the head unit and allow you to return to default menu.
