Question about Ford Taurus
If your check engine light isn't on, the first place I would look is to make sure the throttle body is clean around the area of the throttle plate.
A certain amount of air getting past the throttle plate is normal. However, when deposits are allowed to be built up around it it can cause a stall due to lack of air at closed throttle.
Second item is the idle air control valve. This devise is controlled by the computer to allow air flow past the throttle plate at near or closed throttle.
Cold engines and loads such as air conditioning and power steering will put loads on the engine that will need more airflow. The computer can adjust airflow to keep idle speeds normal
I have not had any success in cleaning these valves to prevent them from sticking.
Replacement is the best repair.
These valves are mounted on the throttle body next to the throttle plate and are easy to replace.
They will be available at your favorite auto parts supplier or the Ford dealer.
