With it being a 97, the oil pump could be worn if high milage. thus causing less pressure. try 10w30, it wont hurt a thing.

check /replace the oil pressure sensor . Have the oil pressure checked by a mechanical gauge to prove that the oil pressure is ok.

Low oil pressure indicator at low rpms (idle) '97 olds V8

Low pressure when at idle, after the engine has warmed up and the oil has thinned, indicates that the oil pump is worn and needs to be replaced.

Oil light on after engine warm-up on idle

this means a mechanical gauge test is required to check actual pressure warm idling if low below 20 psi then the oil pressure pump relief is stuck open or engine bearing are worn

Hello! As long as the oil pressure does not drop below 10-15 lbs at idle and iccreases with rpm/s I would not worry...Change to a higher range viscosity oil; 10W30 in the summer and 10W40 in the winter and you should not have a problem...Guru...saailer

I keep losing oil pressure when im at an idle but when i acc. the pressure comes back up and i have checked the oil it is fine

What is the make/model of the Jeep? What engine? Are you losing pressure completely or is it just low at idle? Many older Jeeps show little oil pressure at idle when the engine is warm. If you aren't hearing rattling like you are actually losing oil pressure, and the pressure comes up when you accelerate, you are probably OK.

Oil light keeps coming on

these 'shortstar' engines are well known for low oil pressure at idle, so look first to be sure it is full on the dipstick-it takes about 7 quarts to be full. If you are using 5w-30 oil (recommended), consider changing the oil and refilling with 10w-40, and buy a good filter like purolator Pure One, or a K&N, Wix or Delco. If theis happens even when cold, you have a problem that will be a lot more expensive-oil pump is going or gone, or you have worn bearings and this is going to require a rebuild of a used engine, very expensive.

2001 Auroro 3.5 V6 low oil pressure in display area and oil light come on shortly after start up then goes out when temperature gauge reads car is warm. Oil change shop says no leaks and they changed...

you have a cartridge filter on a 3.5, it is not a screw-on metal canister like most oil filters...the cover that has to be removed to take out and install the new cartridge is made of plastic and you might have a leak there-but I would suspect either the oil pressure sensor or the wiring or connector needs checking or cleaning. You should be using 5w-30 oil, and the capacity is 6 quarts. If you get a warning when cold that goes away when warm, it is not an engine problem but is a sensor problem, oil gets thinner as it warms, dropping pressure. Since your display trips when cold (higher pressure) it sounds like a sensor issue, and the module itself (the display on the dash) can also go bad on these cars.

1989 VW cabriolet oil pressure warning light on at low rpm and idle. Oil pressure gauge shows sub 1 bar at same time. Is this a sending unit problem, or an oil pump problem? Where are sending units? ...

The Oil light is a dreaded sight, especially at idle. Usually if an oil pump fails, it dies, the same with an oil pressure sender. I had the same problem with a 97 neon, at idle the oil light comes on... (192,000 miles). If the oil used at the oil change was a thinner viscosity than what was in there, that could cause it. If not, it could be bearings going bad on the motor creating a low pressure situation. I fixed it by going to a thicker viscosity, from 5w-30 to 10w-30, and in a week the light went off... this was 7 months ago. Just food for thought, hope this helps.

your oil pressure should be a lot more than 7 lbs, your oil filter may need changing, or your oil pump could be the problem ....hope this helps....cheers

Thicker oil is all you need. 5w30 is too thin when it warms up and the sensor cant pick up the flow going past. 10w40 should stop all the issues
