I need to remove the panel in my dash that houses the air vents and the LCD display to install an Iphone bracket. How do I remove this panel?

Hi, procedure from autozone.com pasted below. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

CAUTION The clutch driven disc often contains asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer-causing agent Never clean clutch surfaces with compressed air. Avoid inhaling any dust from any clutch surface. When cleaning clutch surfaces, use a commercially-available brake cleaning fluid.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Lift the clutch pedal to its upward-most position to disengage the pawl and quadrant. Push the quadrant forward, unhook the cable from the quadrant and allow it to slowly swing rearward.
  2. Open the hood and remove the screw that holds the cable assembly isolator to the dash panel.
  3. Pull the cable through the dash panel and into the engine compartment. On 5.0L engines, remove the cable bracket screw from the fender apron.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle safely using jackstands.
  5. Remove the dust cover from the bell housing.
  6. Remove the clip retainer holding the cable assembly to the bell housing.
  7. Slide the ball on the end of the cable assembly through the hole in the clutch release lever and remove the cable.
  8. Remove the dash panel isolator from the cable.

To install:
  1. Install the dash panel isolator on the cable assembly.
  2. Insert the cable through the hole in the bell housing and through the hole in the clutch release lever. Slide the ball on the end of the cable assembly away from the hole in the clutch release lever.
  3. Install the clip retainer that holds the cable assembly to the bell housing.
  4. Install the dust shield on the bell housing.
  5. Push the cable assembly into the engine compartment and lower the vehicle. On 5.0L engines, install the cable bracket screw in the fender apron.
  6. Push the cable assembly into the hole in the dash panel and secure the isolator with a screw.
  7. Install the cable assembly by lifting the clutch pedal to disengage the pawl and quadrant. Then, pushing the quadrant forward, hook the end of the cable over the rear of the quadrant.
  8. Depress the clutch cable several times to adjust the cable.

Where is the windshield washer motor located? Is it near the heater motor? I had mine fixed and now the heat comes out of the dash for the defroster


Windshield Washer Pump Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2. Remove the bolts. windwash.gif

  3. Position the pump and reservoir aside.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  5. Disconnect the washer hose.
  6. Remove the pump and reservoir.
  7. Remove the washer pump.

To Install:

Air Door Actuators, Cables or Motors Removal & Installation Air Inlet Door Vacuum Control Motor To Remove:
  1. Remove the instrument panel lower insulator cover.
  2. Disconnect the vacuum connector.
  3. Remove the control arm clip and the spring.
  4. Remove the nuts and the air inlet door vacuum control motor.

To Install:
  1. Install the vacuum motor on the mounting bracket.
  2. Connect the control arm and spring.
  3. Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum motor.
  4. Install the lower instrument panel lower cover.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the left lower dash insulator panel and disconnect the lamp.
  3. Remove the two pin-type retainers and remove the fill panel.
  4. Remove the DLC mounting screws.
  5. Detach the vacuum line.
  6. Remove the lighting module.
  7. Remove the screws and the bracket.
  8. Remove the floor/defrost door vacuum control motor.

To Install:
  1. Connect the vacuum lines and install the floor/defrost vacuum motor.

Panel Door Vacuum Control Motor To Remove:

To Install:
  1. Install the panel door vacuum motor.
  2. Connect the vacuum line to the panel door motor.
  3. Reach through the opening and install the pin to the linkage.

Need to replace heater core for Ford Taurus 2000


Heater and Evaporator Core Housing Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Recover the refrigerant.
  2. Remove the instrument panel.
  3. Remove the right side cowl vent screen.
  4. Remove the screws and the water shield.
  5. Disconnect the vacuum supply hose.
  6. Clamp off and disconnect the heater hoses at the firewall.
  7. Disconnect the evaporator outlet spring lock coupling. Discard the O-rings.
  8. Remove the two condenser-to-evaporator line bracket bolts.
  9. Disconnect the evaporator inlet spring lock coupling. Discard the O-rings.
  10. Remove the three nuts at the dash panel.
  11. Remove the screws and the heater outlet floor duct.
  12. Remove the evaporator core housing bolt and nut.
  13. Remove the heater and evaporator core housing.

To Install:
  1. Install the heater and evaporator core housing in the vehicle. Secure the mounting nut and bolt.
  2. Install the heater outlet floor duct. Secure with the mounting screws.
  3. Install the three mounting nuts to the dash panel. Tighten to 53 in-lb (6 Nm).
  4. Install new refrigerant system O-ring seals lubricated in clean mineral oil. Connect the evaporator lines.
  5. Install the two condenser-to-evaporator line bracket bolts. Tighten to 80 in-lb (9 Nm).
  6. Connect the hoses to the heater core connections. Lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only, if needed.
  7. Connect the vacuum supply hose.
  8. Install the screws and the water shield.
  9. Install the right side cowl vent screen.
  10. Install the instrument panel.
  11. Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.
  12. Evacuate, leak test and charge the A/C system.
  13. Add coolant as needed.

REMOVAL

  1. Release hood latch and open hood.
Removal/Installation of Battery Cables 81929864

  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Remove windshield wiper housing, refer to the Windshield Wipers and Washers for proper procedures.
  3. Remove accessory drive belt.
Generator Mounting Bracket 81929870

  1. Remove bolt holding top of generator mount bracket to engine air intake plenum.
  2. Remove bolts holding outside of generator mount bracket to generator mount plate.
  3. Remove bolt holding top of generator to mount bracket.
  4. Remove generator mount bracket from vehicle.
  5. Rotate generator toward rear dash panel.
Generator 81929868

  1. Disconnect the push-in field wire connector . from back of generator.
  2. Remove nut holding B+ wire terminal to back of generator.
  3. Separate B+ terminal from generator.

  1. Remove bolt holding bottom of generator to lower pivot bracket.

INSTALLATION

  1. Place generator in position on vehicle.
  2. Install bolt to hold bottom of generator to lower pivot bracket.
  3. Place B+ terminal in position on generator.
  4. Install nut to hold B+ wire terminal to back of generator.
  5. Connect the push-in field wire connector into back of generator.
  6. Rotate generator forward away from dash panel.
  7. Place generator mount bracket in position on vehicle.
  8. Install bolt to hold top of generator to mount bracket.
  9. Install bolts to hold outside of generator mount bracket to generator mount plate.
  10. Install bolt to hold top of generator mount bracket to engine air intake plenum.
  11. Install accessory drive belt.
  12. Install windshield wiper housing, refer to the Windshield Wipers and Washers for proper procedures.
  13. Connect battery negative cable.
  14. Verify generator charge rate.

Is the heater core on a 1981 bronco in the engine compartment or the cab compartment


in the cab, but procedures are different depending on whether or not you have A/C. See below

1980-81 Comfort Vent Heaters, Without Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes and plug the hoses with suitable 5 / 8 inch; (16mm) plugs.
  2. Remove the glove compartment liner.
  3. Remove two (2) spring clips attaching the heater core cover to the plenum along the top edge of the heater core cover.
  4. Remove eight (8) screws attaching the heater core cover to the plenum and remove the cover.
  5. Remove the heater core from the plenum taking care not to spill coolant from the core.
To install:
  1. Install the heater core in the plenum.
  2. Install the heater core cover (eight (8) screws and two (2) spring clips along the top edge of the cover).
  3. Install the glove compartment liner.
  4. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core. Tighten the hose clamps.
  5. Add coolant to raise the coolant level to specification.
  6. Check the system for proper operation and for coolant leaks.

1980-81 Standard & High Output Heaters, Without Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the temperature cable from the temperature blend door and the mounting bracket on top of the heater case.
  2. Disconnect the wires from the blower motor resistor and the blower motor.
  3. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core and plug the hoses with suitable 5 / 8 inch; (16mm) plugs.
  4. Working under the instrument panel, remove two (2) nuts retaining the left end of the heater case and the right end of the plenum to the dash panel.
  5. In the engine compartment, remove one (1) screw attaching the top center of the heater case to the dash panel.
  6. Remove two (2) screws attaching the right end of the heater case to the dash panel, and remove the heater case from the vehicle.
  7. Remove nine (9) screws and one (1) bolt and nut attaching the heater housing plate to the heater case, and remove the heater housing plate.
  8. Remove three (3) screws attaching the heater core frame to the heater case and remove the frame.
  9. Remove the heater core and seal from the heater case.

To install:
  1. Position the heater core and seal in the heater case.
  2. Install the heater core frame (3 screws).
  3. Position the heater housing plate on the heater case and install the nine (9) screws and one (1) bolt and nut.
  4. Position the heater case to the dash panel and install the three (3) attaching screws.
  5. Working in the passenger compartment, install two (2) nuts to retain the heater case and plenum right end to the dash panel.
  6. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core. Tighten the hose clamps.
  7. Connect the wires to the blower motor resistor assembly.
  8. Connect the blower motor wires.
  9. Position (slide) the self-adjusting clip on the temperature cable to a position approximately one 1 inch; (25.4mm) from the cable end loop.
  10. Snap the temperature cable on the cable mounting bracket of the heater case. Then, position the self-adjusting clip on the door crank arm.
  11. Adjust the temperature cable.
  12. Check the system for proper operation.

Yes, your core is leaking. The core is in the box under the dash. The procedure is quite involved. I will attempt to paste from autozone.com below:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2. Disconnect and remove the negative battery.
    CAUTION After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait 2 minutes for the driver-s/passenger-s air bag system capacitor to discharge before attempting to do any work around the steering column or instrument.
  3. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  4. Remove the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Turn the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
    2. Remove the A-pillar trim from both sides of the vehicle.
    3. Remove the top cover from the instrument panel.
    4. Near the windshield line, remove the 4 instrument panel-to-chassis nuts.
    5. Remove the scuff plates from both front door sills.
    6. Remove the trim panels from both sides of the inner cowl.
    7. Remove the floor console.
    8. Remove the fuse cover from the junction box.
    9. Remove the instrument panel cluster bezel.
    10. Remove the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel.
    11. Remove the steering column bracket from the instrument panel column support bracket.
    12. Remove the lower steering column shroud cover-to-multifunction switch screw; then, unsnap both halves of the shroud cover from the steering column.
    13. Disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness connectors from the following steering column components:
      Both lower clock spring connector receptacles Left multifunction switch receptacle Right multifunction switch receptacle Both ignition switch receptacles Shifter interlock solenoid receptacle Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) receptacle, if equipped
    14. Turn the ignition switch to ON position; then, release and remove the shifter interlock cable connector from the ignition lock housing receptacle.
    15. Turn the ignition switch to OFF position; this will prevent the steering wheel from turning and the loss of the clock spring centering following steering column removal.
    16. Remove the 4 steering column-to-instrument panel steering column bracket nuts.
    17. Remove the steering column from the instrument panel.
    18. Disconnect both side body wiring harness bulkhead connectors, the Ignition Off Draw (IOD) wiring harness connector and the fused wiring harness connector from the junction block connector receptacles.
    19. Disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness-to-floor console component connectors:
      Air bag control module connector receptacle Parking brake switch terminal Transmission shifter connector receptacle
    20. Remove the 2 instrument panel wiring harness-to-floor console ground terminals located behind the air bag control module.
    21. Disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness-to-floor console retainers.
    22. Remove the instrument panel-to-floor console bracket screws and the bracket.
    23. Remove the driver-s side floor duct-to-heater/air conditioning housing assembly screw and remove the duct.
    24. If equipped with a manual heating-air conditioning system, disconnect the vacuum harness connector from behind the driver-s side floor duct.
    25. Remove the instrument panel steering column support bracket-to-driver-s side of the heater/air conditioning housing assembly screw
    26. Remove the instrument panel steering column support bracket-to-intermediate bracket screw.
    27. Remove the instrument panel steering column support bracket-to-driver-s side cowl plenum panel nut.
    28. Remove the 2 instrument panel-to-driver-s side cowl side inner panel screws.
    29. Remove the instrument panel end cap.
    30. Remove the lower right center bezel from the instrument panel.
    31. At the passenger-s side cowl side inner panel, disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness bulkhead connector from the lower cavity of the inline connector.
    32. Near the right side cowl inner panel, located under the end of the instrument panel, disconnect both halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector.
    33. Disconnect the 2 instrument panel-to-heater/air conditioning assembly wiring harness connectors.
    34. At the passenger-s side, remove the 2 instrument panel structural duct-to-heater/air conditioning housing assembly screws.
    35. At the passenger-s side cowl side inner panel, remove the 2 instrument panel-to-passenger-s side cowl side inner panel screws.
    36. With the help of an assistant, lift the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  5. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  6. Disconnect the air conditioning system lines at the evaporator. Plug the openings to prevent contamination.
  7. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core. Plug the openings to prevent coolant loss.
  8. If equipped with a manual temperature control system, unplug the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector from the T-fitting located near the heater core tubes.
  9. From the passenger-s side inner fender shield, remove the coolant reservoir/overflow bottle.
  10. From the passenger-s side in the engine compartment dash panel, remove the PCM; DO NOT unplug it, just move it aside.
  11. In the engine compartment, remove the heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts.
  12. At the center of the dashboard, remove the rear floor ducts from the floor heat duct outlets.
  13. Disconnect the heater/air conditioning housing wire harness connectors.
  14. In the passenger compartment, remove the heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts.
  15. Place covers inside the vehicle to catch any spilt coolant.
  16. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing assembly from the vehicle.
  17. Remove the foam gasket from around the heater core tubes.
    NOTE Note the position of the irregular shaped gasket so that it may be reinstalled in its correct position.
  18. Remove the heater core retainers and screws.
  19. If necessary, remove the mode door actuator for clearance to remove the core.
  20. Remove the heater core from the heater/air conditioning housing assembly.

Installing blower motor


Removal & Installation
CAUTION

Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Remove the right side sound insulator.
  2. Pull back the carpet near the blower motor.
  3. Remove the Instrument Panel compartment.
  4. Remove the dash integration module from bracket.
  5. Remove the two rear dash integration module bracket screws.
  6. Reposition the dash integration module bracket to allow for removal of the blower motor.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor.
  8. Disconnect he blower motor ventilation tube from the module (if equipped).
  9. Remove the blower motor retaining screws.
  10. Rotate and remove the blower motor from vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the blower motor. Blower motor will need to be rotated to install into the housing. Ensure that the blower motor gasket is properly aligned.
  2. Install the blower motor retaining screws.
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the blower motor.
  4. Connect the blower motor ventilation tube to the module (if equipped).
  5. Reposition the dash integration module bracket to its original position.
  6. Install the two rear dash integration module bracket screws.
  7. Install the Instrument Panel compartment.
  8. Reposition the carpet.
  9. Install the right side sound insulator.

Looking to replace heater core


Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, 1999-2005

Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect and remove the negative battery.
    CAUTION After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait 2 minutes for the driver-s/passenger-s air bag system capacitor to discharge before attempting to do any work around the steering column or instrument.
  2. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  3. Remove the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Turn the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
    2. Remove the knee blocker from the instrument panel.
    3. Remove the steering column; do not remove the air bag module, the steering wheel or switches from the steering column.
    4. From under the driver-s side of the instrument panel, disconnect the following items:

      Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the 100-way wiring harness connector at the left side of the inner panel. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct on the driver-s side.
    5. Remove the glove box.
    6. Reaching through the glove box opening, disconnect the following items:

      Two halves of the heater/air conditioning system vacuum harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the heater/air conditioning system wiring harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the passenger-s side air bag module wiring harness connector. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct (passenger-s side). Two halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector. Two instrument panel wiring harness connectors from the passenger air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness connector. Passenger-s side air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness from the retainer clip on the plenum bracket that supports the heater/air conditioning housing just inboard of the fuse block module. Two lower passenger-s side air bag module bracket-to-dash panel nuts.
    7. Remove the upper cover from the instrument panel.
    8. Remove the 3 instrument panel-to-door hinge pillar screws.
    9. Remove the 4 upper instrument panel-to-dash nuts.
    10. Using an assistant, remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  4. If equipped with air conditioning, discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  5. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the evaporator. Plug the refrigerant openings to prevent evaporation.
  6. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
  7. Disconnect the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector from the T-fitting near the heater core tubes.
  8. In the engine compartment, remove the 5 heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts. If necessary, loosen the battery hold-downs and reposition the battery for access.
  9. Remove the cowl plenum drain tube from the heater/air conditioning housing stud; it-s located behind the cylinder head on the cowl.
  10. From the bottom of the heater/air conditioning housing, remove the floor duct.
  11. On the passenger side, remove the heater/air conditioning housing-to-plenum bracket screw.
  12. Pull the heater/air conditioning housing down far enough to clear the defrost/demist and fresh air ducts, then, rearward far enough to clear the mounting studs and the evaporator drain tube to clear the dash panel holes.
  13. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing assembly from the vehicle.
  14. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing upper case.
  15. Lift the heater core from the lower half of the heater/air conditioning housing.
To install:
  1. Assemble the heater core into the lower half of the heater/air conditioning housing.
  2. Install the heater/air conditioning housing upper case.
  3. Install the heater/air conditioning housing assembly to the vehicle.
  4. On the passenger-s side, install the heater/air conditioning housing-to-plenum bracket screw.
  5. At the bottom of the heater/air conditioning housing, install the floor duct.
  6. Install the cowl plenum drain tube to the heater/air conditioning housing stud; it-s located behind the cylinder head on the cowl.
  7. In the engine compartment, install the 5 heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts.
  8. Connect the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector to the T-fitting near the heater core tubes.
  9. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes.
  10. Connect the refrigerant lines to the evaporator.
  11. If equipped with air conditioning, evacuate and charge the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  12. Install the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Using an assistant, install the instrument panel to the vehicle.
    2. Install the 4 upper instrument panel-to-dash nuts.
    3. Install the 3 instrument panel-to-door hinge pillar screws.
    4. Install the upper cover to the instrument panel.
    5. Reaching through the glove box opening, connect the following items.

      Two lower passenger-s side air bag module bracket-to-dash panel nuts. Passenger-s side air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness to the retainer clip on the plenum bracket that supports the heater/air conditioning housing just inboard of the fuse block module. Two instrument panel wiring harness connectors to the passenger air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness connector. Two halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct (passenger-s side). Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the passenger-s side air bag module wiring harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the heater/air conditioning system wiring harness connector. Two halves of the heater/air conditioning system vacuum harness connector.
    6. Install the glove box.
    7. Under the driver-s side of the instrument panel, connect the following items:

      Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct on the driver-s side. Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the 100-way wiring harness connector at the left side of the inner panel.
    8. Install the steering column.
    9. Install the knee blocker to the instrument panel.

  13. Connect and remove the negative battery.
  14. Refill the cooling system.
  15. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
  3. Carefully pry upward, using a small, flat-bladed tool, to remove the defroster grille.
  4. Remove the Sunload and Headlamp Auto Control sensors from the defroster grille.
  5. Working through the defroster grille opening, remove 3 upper trim panel retaining screws.
  6. Remove the heater/air conditioning vents from the front of the instrument panel by releasing the tab on each side from inside the vent and pulling out.
  7. Working through the vent openings, remove 4 upper trim panel retaining screws and remove the upper trim panel.
  8. Remove the instrument cluster.
  9. Remove the right and left A/C vent trim panels.
  10. Open the trap door in the rear of the glove compartment and remove the passenger inflatable restraint wiring connector from the retaining clip on the rear of the glove compartment assembly.
  11. Remove the 4 glove compartment-to-instrument panel retaining screws.
  12. Pull the glove compartment assembly outward enough to access the wiring connectors for the glove compartment switches. Label and detach the wiring connectors.
  13. Remove the glove compartment assembly from the instrument panel.
  14. Remove the retaining screws and courtesy lamps from the right and left sound insulators and remove the sound insulators.
  15. Remove the steering column opening filler trim by grasping at the front and rear edges and pulling downward.
  16. Remove the 4 retaining bolts and the steering column opening bracket.
  17. If equipped with full console, remove the console.
  18. If equipped with mini console, remove the radio.
  19. Remove the headlamp switch module.
  20. Remove the 2 bolts and the hood latch release.
  21. Move the driver's seat to its full rearward position.
  22. Remove the steering column.
  23. Remove the 8 instrument panel retaining screws, detach the wiring connector at each side of the instrument panel, and remove the shims at the lower mounting screws.
  24. Remove the instrument panel with the aid of an assistant.
To install:
  1. With the aid of an assistant, position the instrument panel in the vehicle.
  2. Attach the wiring connector at each side of the instrument panel, install the shims and the 8 instrument panel retaining screws.
  3. Install the steering column.
  4. Install the hood latch release with the 2 bolts.
  5. Install the headlamp switch module.
  6. If equipped with mini console, install the radio.
  7. If equipped, install the console.
  8. Install the steering column opening bracket and the steering column opening filler trim.
  9. Install the right and left sound insulators.
  10. Position the glove compartment assembly and attach the wiring connectors to the switches.
  11. Push the glove compartment into place and install the retaining screws.
  12. Place the passenger inflatable restraint wiring connector on the retaining clip on the rear of the glove compartment assembly and close the trap door.
  13. Install the right and left A/C vent trim panels.
  14. Install the instrument cluster.
  15. Position the upper trim panel on top of the instrument panel, making sure the sensors are through the trim panel.
  16. Install the upper trim panel retaining screws through the heater/air conditioning vent openings.
  17. Gently push the heater/air conditioning vents into place.
  18. Install the upper trim panel retaining screws through the defroster grille opening.
  19. Install the Sunload and Headlamp Auto Control sensors to the defroster grille.
  20. Gently push the defroster grille into place.
  21. Enable the SIR system.
  22. Connect the negative battery cable.

How to Replace a Heater Core


Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait 2 minutes for the driver-s/passenger-s air bag system capacitor to discharge before attempting to do any work around the steering column or instrument
  2. On diesel models, remove the passenger side battery and battery tray.
  3. Remove the instrument panel by performing the following procedures:
    1. Remove the air bag control module (ACM) and bracket from the floor panel tunnel.
    2. Remove the trim from both cowl side inner panels.
    3. Remove the steering column-to-instrument panel opening cover.
    4. Remove the 2 hood latch release handle-to-instrument panel lower reinforcement screws and lower the handle to the floor.
    5. Disconnect the driver-s side air bag module wiring harness connector from the lower instrument panel reinforcement.
    6. Place the wheels in the straight-ahead position and lock the steering wheel. Remove the steering column without disassembling it.
    7. From under the driver-s side of the instrument, disconnect or remove the following items:

      Parking brake release handle linkage rod from the parking brake mechanism located on the left cowl side inner panel. Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the parking brake switch located on the parking brake mechanism. Three wiring harness connectors (body wiring harness, headlight, dash) from the 3 junction block connector receptacles located closest to the dash panel. Head light/dash-to-instrument panel bulkhead wiring harness connector screw and disconnect the connector. Instrument panel-to-door wiring harness connector located directly below the bulkhead wiring harness connector. Infinity sound system wiring harness connector (if equipped), located at the outboard side of the instrument panel bulkhead connector. Stop light switch electrical connector. Vacuum harness connector located near the left side of the heater/air conditioning housing.
    8. Under the passenger-s side of the instrument panel, disconnect the radio antenna coaxial cable connector.
    9. Loosen both sides of the instrument panel cowl side roll-down bracket screws about 1 / 2 inch (13mm).
    10. Remove the 5 upper instrument panel-to-upper dash panel screws; remove the center screw last.
    11. Roll down the instrument panel and install a temporary hook in the center hole on top of the panel. Attach the other end to the center hole in the top of the dash panel. The opening should be approximately 18 inches (46cm).
    12. Disconnect the instrument panel-to-heater/air conditioning housing assembly wiring harness connectors.
    13. Using an assistant, remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

  4. If equipped with air conditioning, perform the following procedure:
    1. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
    2. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the evaporator. Plug the openings to prevent contamination.
    3. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the accumulator. Plug the openings to prevent contamination.
    4. Remove the accumulator.

  5. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  6. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
  7. Remove the PCM from the dash panel and move it aside. Do not disconnect the PCM harness connector.
  8. In the engine compartment, remove the heater/air conditioning housing assembly-to-chassis nuts.
  9. In the passenger-s compartment, remove the heater/air conditioning housing-to-dash panel nuts.
  10. Pull the heater/air conditioning housing assembly rearward far enough to clear the studs and air conditioning drain tube holes.
  11. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing assembly from the vehicle.
  12. Remove the upper-to-lower heater/air conditioning housing screws and remove the upper housing.
  13. Remove the heater core from the lower housing.
